Optional Material Components

There's a system in a few splat books called "Optional Material Components". They're basically expensive material components you can use to buff spells. So far I've found them in Book of Exalted Deeds, Book of Vile Darkness, Complete Mage, and Complete Champion. Has anyone else seen them around in any supplemental books or magazines?

I don't know more off the top of my head, but take note that some of the later versions are not nearly as good as they look- because the cost is multiplied by the level of the spell, but it's not written in the individual entries.

Actually there might be more in Magic of Faerun. Or those might have just been optional magic item components.
