Short Published Adventures?

Is there such thing as published one-off adventures any more?

When I started playing 2nd edition, that's all there was. No campaigns, just one off adventures. We didn't concern ourselves with continuity too much, we'd play them one after the other.

Now we play large campaigns with all full character development and the like. Don't get me wrong, I prefer this type of play, but does the published one-off adventure still exist?

I'm a player in a current campaign and the DM wants a break. The other players are tired of making new characters all the time, so we figured I'll run a one-off with the current characters - it's a decent break point in the campaign for a side-quest anyway. The problem is, I'm lazy and really busy, so I'd like to buy a short adventure to run for them. I don't have time to convert an old 2nd edition adventure, but that's the type I'd like. Does anyone have a resource for this? I'm thinking something urban rather than just another dungeon crawl, but that's not essential. And nothing from Dragon or Dungeon - my DM (who will be a player) has them all...

Yeah, you can find tons of them at the Wizards Free Downloadable Adventures (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b) page. What Wizards don't really do anymore is publish and sell many Adventure Modules - apparently they don't make enough money from them.

If you scout around RPGNow you'll find plenty of adventures (and a few free ones), as well as over at Necromancer Games.

Wizards seems to have mostly the original ones - good to know for later, but for now this one I don't have time to convert them.

No problem. There are a whole bunch of D20 Modern ones available through Wizards as well, but you have to head over to the D20 Modern page. I can't speak to the quality of the stuff from RPGNow, but most of it got a high review rating (but maybe because they were free). It's worth noting that Looking Glass Deep is by Mike Mearls, once touted as the Lead Designer on 4e (though no more it seems, maybe I was dreaming?)

Other places to mine are some of the free RPG Magazines that are available. Sign and Portents springs to mind, though I think their D20 Adventures are mainly Conan D20.

I'm getting ready to start playing Living Greyhawk (if we can get some more players for our group!), and I think that's how it's run. (Correct me if anyone else knows more about it). You just get a group together whenever you want to play (as long as you have 4 to 6 players) and run a one-session adventure, and then get the rewards at the end.
