In 3.5, in the multiclassing section it says attack bonuses stack, and if you get a total of +6 you get extra attacks, and doesn't elaborate further. How does it work?

You get an additional attack on a Full Attack action at +6 BAB, +11, and +16. That is, a Fighter6/Barb5 (say) would have 3 attacks at +11/+6/+1, as would a Fighter8/Rogue4. The Full Attack routine only cares about what your final BAB is, not how you get there.

Things get interesting if you add feats like two-weapon fighting, or abilities like the monk's flurry of blows. They also get interesting if you bring natural attacks into the picture.

Add up the base attack bonuses of all your classes as determined by their class tables.

If that value is five or less, you only get one attack from your base attack bonus.

If that value is between 6 and 10 then you get two attacks from your base attack bonus, one at your full attack bonus and one at that value minus 5.

If the value is between 11 and 15, you get three; one at full attack bonus, one at full minus 5, and one at full minus 10

If the value is 16 or more then you get four attacks, one at your full attack bonus, one at that value minus 5, one at full minus 10, and a final at your full attack bonus minus 15.

For example; say you're a monk 4/ fighter 3. You get base attack 3 from monk and base attack 3 from fighter for a total of 6. This being the case, your full attack is two attacks; one at 6 plus your strength modifier plus any miscelaneous bonuses and 1 plus those same bonuses.

Oh, and if it matters, Epic Base Attack Bonus doesn't grant you extra attacks, so if you have only +15 BAB at level 20, and get +16 BAB at level 21, you won't get a fourth attack from that.

I think a more pertinent statement for this thread is that only base attack bonus counts toward extra attacks. The way the opening post is written, the writer seems to think that any attack bonuses contribute toward extra attacks.

Base attack bonus is strictly the attack bonus that you get from class levels added all together from all your classes. Getting extra bonus from strength or weapon enhancements or any other source will not grant you extra attacks unless they explicitly say so (such as the speed weapon enhancement)
