I would dispense with the spell retrieval element. Otherwise, a suitable pact. I wonder if perhaps the gen should be a pact of the chain option, rather than an essential pact feature.

Maybe do up a homebrew in that forum?

The Sha'ir has been in from 2nd and 3rd edition, its core ability is that it uses its Gen to find, beg, borrow, and steal spells from other sources.

Its power comes from its versatility, being able to pick spells from any source divine(including nature) or arcane, but the downside is that it takes time and effort, as well as some risk.

It was a charisma caster in the old editions and asking the Gen to get spells, relied on diplomacy checks, which would now be persuasion

Based on the old versions, I'd have to say that this seems to be a variant of the Warlock or Sorcerer where they forgo their spell list and instead get to pick from any spell list, but this does seem to be a homebrew class.
