Preface: I am DM’ing a Ravnica Campaign. If the mechanics of the backgrounds offend you, please don’t comment down below, I know the backgrounds are controversial.
Part of my campaign is maintaining a group of NPCs that complete the circle of guilds for the guild pact. With the release of the Eberron book, I rewrote my Izzet representative in order to bring him into line with the new artificer and warforged rules. There is an interaction that goes against Jeremy Crawford’s ruling but I still thought was hilarious and also in flavor for the guild.
When the artificer gets to 5th level, the Arcane Firearm feature adds a d8 to spell damage rolls. With chaos bolt this gives you another opportunity to have matching d8s and this bounce the spell.
