Hey everyone, one of my players is playing a champion fighter, but they decided to take the magic initiate feat. The only thing is that they have one of the Ravnica backgrounds, which give an expanded spell list and states "For you, the spells on the <insert guild name> Guild Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class. (If you are a multiclass character with multiple spell lists, these spells are added to all of them.)"
Would this mean that despite having no spellcasting and no other access to spell lists, they could still choose a guild spell and guild cantrips from the magic initiate feat? Obviously it's ultimately up to DM discretion, but by RAW what would your opinions be on this.

please and thank you!

By RAW no, as they don’t have the “Spellcasting”/“Pact Magic” feature. But whatever... go ahead and let them do it. Not going to break anything worse than the other casters would.
