View Full Version : Help with my Level 4 Fighter Character Sheet

Hi guys,

I'm playing D&D 5e with my friends, I'm a rookie and a friend told me
that my character sheet has wrong skill modifiers, saving throws and damage modifiers.

I used PHB 5e to upgrade my level, but I guess I misread the rules.

Could someone more knowledgeable than I please help me correct my mistakes?

I cannot seem to post a link to my character sheet, since my post count is too low.
How can I share it with others?

Your skill modifier will be ability score modifier + proficiency bonus (if proficient). It will be just the ability score modifier if not. You may be adding your score and not your modifier.

However, go to your DM and ask any questions you have about all this.

Edit: Saving throws are just like skills, use the modifier, as a fighter you should have proficieny in Str and Con saves.

Attack and damage... Add the mod, not the score.

Hmmm, I thought I did that right, but I guess not.

My AC is 15, since I'm wearing a chainmail.
My initiative is +3.

Your javelin damage mod should only be +3.

Except for Javelin should only be doing +3 to damage, I can’t see much wrong there. Did your DM give you any specific examples of what they’re seeing?

Thank you so much, guys, I fixed the Javelin damage mod.
I'll ask my DM what other problems he saw.

You should also get two skill proficiencies from your background. It looks like you only took the ones from your class.

What wouldn’t you be? Did you choose acrobatics as one of your skill proficiencies?

For skill proficiencies
As a fighter you:
Skills: Choose two skills from Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Athletics, History, Insight, Intimidation, Perception, and Survival

You also get 2 skills from you background

So you should have a total of 4 skill proficiencies.

Additionally with Chainmail you should have 16 ac but other than 2 numbers that are 1 off, and missing 2 skills it is alright.

Are you rolling for HP? :smallsmile:

Typically people take the "half Hit Die plus one" option. Which, with max at 1st lvl, Fighter 1d10+2, is 12. Then three '6' for next three levels = 18. Plus 2 for CON for each of those three levels, another 6. So 12+8+8+8=36 HP instead of 40.

But if you rolled well, 40 HP is quite possible! :smallsmile:

Your AC is 16 due to Chain Mail having AC of 16. Your +3 Stealth is at Disadvantage while you wear that Chain Mail, however. :smallredface:

Investing in Studded Leather (AC 12+DEX uncapped) is not a bad idea. Your AC would be 15, but you could Stealth without Disadvantage. (Alternative is Chain SHIRT at AC 13+DEX max 2, which is also AC 15. Or, if you can afford it Breastplate at AC 14+DEX max 2, which is AC 16.)

Also a Shield (+2 AC) as an option would be wise. If worn with Chain Mail that would turn you into AC 18. With the stealthy armor options above: AC 17, AC 17, and AC 18 respectively.

You have no Background, which is unusual. Those give you two additional Skills, and often some Language and/or Tool features. Is your GM playing without them? :smallredface:

Yes, you are correct, your Hit Dice should now be 4x 1d10 now.

Your Skills were posted 100% correct, including the Acrobatics +5. Skills are MOD+PB, so Acrobatics is DEX+Lvl4, a.k.a. 3+2, which equals +5. :smallcool: You got this!

Your Second Wind will now equal 1d10+4 (because the mod for this feature here equals your Fighter level).

:smallwink: Next level, 5th, your Proficiency Bonus will go to +3, just a heads up. :smallwink:
