Which classes give an initaitive bonus? How about feats? I want to go first!

Yes, I know Dex is easier, but what fun is that? Anybody can make a Dex-based character. :smalltongue:

Swordsage, scout, and duelist are the ones that spring immediately to mind.

As for feats, aside from Improved Init, Blooded from Players Guide to Faerun. There's also a feat...I think in Complete Warrior...that lets you reroll initiative 1/day. Wu Jen from Complete Arcane get a similar ability. There are some init boosting spells scattered around. I don't have Complete Scoundrel, but I'd be truly surprised if there isn't at least one luck feat that helps init somehow.

Swordsages give a stacking, unnamed +1 bonus to initiative at levels 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20. But that's the only one I remember.

There's a Diamond Mind martial maneuver called Moment of Alacrity that gives a whopping +20 to initiative. Swordsages and Warblades can easily get it, but you'll have to burn a three feats for Martial Study if you don't want to take Martial Adept levels.

There's a feat in Complete Adventurer called Quick Reconnoiter that gives a +2 to initiative, as well as letting you make Spot and Listen checks as Free Actions 1/round.

Isn't there a feat "Warrior instinct" that adds like 1 to initiative and spot? Useless, but worth mentioning.

A Wu Jen has the watchful class spirit that allows her to re-roll an initiative roll once per day.

Hereos of Horror has a feat "Lunatic Insight" that amoung other things gives a +2 morale bonus to initiative.

Guerrilla Scout from Heroes of Battle gives a +1 unnamed bonus on initiative checks.

Lucky Start from Complete Scoundrel allows you to reroll an initiative check.

Plus, there is always Celerity. It doesn't affect your initiative roll, but essentially lets you go first regardless of your roll.

Two feats from the Player's Guide to Faerūn give unnamed +2 bonuses to initiative: Blooded and Thug.

They are regional feats, 1st-level only and come with some other skill bonuses and/or minor special ablities.

There's a feat in Complete Adventurer called Quick Reconnoiter that gives a +2 to initiative, as well as letting you make Spot and Listen checks as Free Actions 1/round.Aren't Spot and Listen checks usually free actions, anyway?

Trying to spot something you failed to notice earlier is a move action. Listen checks are the same.

Thank you all for the references and ideas. Sometimes, it's worth the effort to make a character that just makes the DM groan. :smallamused:

Now, how many levels would I need to put them all in one character...

...wait, hummingbirds give a plus four to initiative?! What a scam! I bet you have to be a forest gnome or something! :smalltongue:

The real questions is: what can you do now that you have won initiative?

There is a character trait in unearthed arcana ("Aggressive" I think) that gives +2 bonus to initiative but reduces AC by 1.

Cleric domain "TIme" gives Improved Initiative as granted power.
