So hi again guys, been a while since my last post here and things have been crazy. Last night was first night in months since our last session. Never got to try the t-rex fey army idea but that's okay, our campaign is now on what dm has described as phase 2. To summarize it, there are stones that anchor our world in correct alignment to prevent us from splitting apart and becoming one with different elemental planes. Two got destroyed and we fixed 1, now onto the water plane stone. While all this elemental plane business is happening our world's natural flow of magic in the laylines is ****ed and wild magic is everywhere, aka everyone is now a hard core version of wild magic sorcerer with only wild magic surges, along with more magic casted in a short period of time the higher our rolls have to not get a surge. Rules are basic level of spell have to roll x2 or x3 it's spell's level or higher to not get a surge.

Last night our dm finally got a taste of the crazyiness we been experiencing, and the surges consisted of 1d6 flumps, 1 unicorn, a wall of fire, a anything you utter after cast comes true after a minute(he auto downed our fighter with it), and last but now least a PORTAL TO THE 9 ****ING HELLS APPEARED AFTER THE EVIL CLERIC OF A VOID DRAGON WILD MAGIC SURGED. Evil cleric gets booted into portal, apparently died and now a giant clawed hand is trying to pull itself out from the portal. So how would one close a wild magic spawned portal to the 9 hells?

Dispel magic? Disjunction? Stuff the Tarrasque into it?

Duck and cover springs to mind.

New character sheets might also be a good idea.

Actually, I'd ready a banishment or similar spell. A disjunction might also work. Really, you are best off asking the DM out of game "how long will the portal will remain open." It prompts him to make the duration something other than permanent.

Antimagic field? Maybe the dm would let you do it with Gate? This isn't an established area in 5e. However, there were 2e & 3e spells to temporarily close or scramble s portal so if the DM's game maybe you can update them? Block the opening with a Wall of Force or the like?

Does breaking a staff of power still create a big explosion and suck stuff into the Astral?
