I've come to really appreciate Kobold Press's creatively as exemplified in the ToB, enough so that I've gladly ordered the CC and am eagerly looking forward to it's delivery. This has started me wondering about their campaign setting. Does anyone have any experience with it? What's bad, what's good? How do you think it compares to any of the official settings? How unique is it, just another medival world with the trope-ish kingdoms reshuffled and the names filed off? I look forward to whatever thoughts people care to share about it.

I love their tome of beasts. I just ordered one of their other creature books and the Heroes hand book for more player options. I haven't touched the main core book since it has a price tag of $100+ on amazon. There's probably a PDF version on drivethru or Dmsguild. Artwork is great.

Telesphoros, you are a saint for typing all that up and I'm very grateful. My interest is definitely perking up.

Are the nation's interesting and detailed to a helpful degree?

I actually emailed Kobold Press last week and found out the setting book is reprinting in March, so with a bit of waiting the price should be manageable.

I am currently running a campaign using the Midgard setting. It's pretty amazing. Definitely not just your boilerplate medieval European world although that is represented. There is an Empire ruled by dragons, several nations ruled by vampires and their minions, a big chunk of Norse mythology based stuff to the north and Egyptian to the South. And that is only scratching the surface.

Be warned though, and YMMV, as brilliant as their fluff is Kobold Press drops the ball when it comes to crunch. Their subclasses and spells are a mess, although their player character races and monsters are mostly usable as is.

I haven't had a chance to play myself but there's a restaurant/bar in the area that has been hosting a couple tables playing the setting for the last year or longer. So I guess it must work

There's a free preview available for download from DriveThruRPG:
https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/107261/Midgard-Preview?cPath=4291_19172

The KQ store has a list of all the Midgard products. A lot of the adventures have free handouts. Downloading them might you some idea of how Midgard feels:

NB: I've been a KQ patron for years, and a frequent backer of their Kickstarter drives.
