I’ve gotten really into Dark Sun recently, and have been wanting to run a Pathfinder 1e game set on Athas.
I’ve read the converted 3.5 material thats available, as well as the original boxed set. I have multiple original 2e suplements for the setting to get through, but one of the things I’ve been thinking seriously about recently is ditching vancian magic for Spheres of Power.

How would you represent the Defilers and Preservers of Athas using Spheres of Power? I’m thinking casting traditions are the most obvious choice, but I’m a bit stuck as to how exactly to model the magic of Defilers. Spell components and their illegality/scarcity is a core part of the setting, so they’d need to use components. What would be a good way of representing the Defilers drawing their magic from living plants and beings, damaging and destroying life in the process?

Not knowing much about Dark Sun magic, would the Terrain Casting drawback suffice? It has that whole "blights the area around you" shtick.

That sounds absolutely perfect, wheres it from? I don’t have Ultimate Spheres of Power.

Pretty sure it was added because of Dark Sun at some point. :)

That seems very likely.

If you specifically want the product it's in, it's Spheres Apocrypha: Nature Talents: Spirit. In it there's also feat for if you have that casting drawback that lets you blight the area worse to make using metamagic easier.
