So, I have a D&D mini which is a huge hill giant (basically Queen Guh).

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/HlMAAOSwaqZc1GHi/s-l400.jpg
...I was wondering, short of outright homebrew, is there any way for a Hill Giant (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/giant.htm#hillGiant) to grow to Huge size in 3.X? Since Hill Giants advance by class rather than HD, it's tricky.

I guess templates like Half-fiend or Lycanthropy might work, but not really what I'm looking for.

I have seen some creatures that normally advance by class instead advanced by HD, such as one of the Hags in the EtCR adventure, and also a Rakshasa in an online 3.0 adventure.

I'm welcoming all feedback at this stage - I'd love to use the mini in game, so I'm looking at RAW options before I homebrew.

Cheers - T

How about the expansion power?

Yeah, an Item of Expansion(Or just a Ring of Enlarge, no reason to care about the 'humanoid' restriction) is probably easiest, and makes for a very nice bit of loot for the party's meatshield. You could also give her a PsyWar level or three, if you don't want to let the fighter break things that easily. Other than that, there's not many good options. Most stuff specifically sets your size to "Large", or is a race of it's own, which doesn't work well.

Alter Self, Wu Jen Giant Size, Pathfinder Giant Hide Armor, or maaaaybe a way to get Goliath barb mountain rage.

Just say it's a freak of nature. A plain ol' size increase (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/improvingMonsters.htm#sizeIncreases) is a flat +1 CR.

Faces of the Forgotten North have Mountain Creature template: for CR +3, it gives +1 size, +2 HD, Str, Con, and Wis, some climb speed, cold resistance, and bonus to Hide in snowy or mountainous terrain

I definitely remember some rules text that said spellcasters from other races (and live in communities of that race) usually have spells that affect those races rather than humanoids

Demons and devils would have Charm Outsider rather than Charm Person, Aboleths have Hold Aberration, and Giants have Enlarge Giant.

Now, is this rules text from 3.5? Perhaps. Is it straight from my imagination? Possible

In Pathfinder, there is the simple "Giant template" which simply increases size and affects the relevant modifiers.

It's a +1 to CR, and doesn't come with all the baggage of half fiend/ lycanthropes and so on.
(Can't link from my current phone, but should be very easy to look up).

How about the effect from the Rod of Wonder (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/rods.htm#wonder)?
I mean - custom effects for that item is a tradition (and, pre-3.5, "50-53" result could do it even by the RAW)

I was looking for something that wasn't a temporary effect or reliant on items or spells, so one of these options should suffice. Thank you.

FWIW, that's not Guh, this is Guh.

I don't suppose there's 3.X stats for Queen Guh? From my understanding, she didn't appear until 5E?

Not to my knowledge, but in 5e, she's just a modified hill giant with a Dexterity score of 1 and a speed of 0 feet. She also has 160 HP instead of 105. 5e doesn't have nonability rules, so in 3.5e she would simply have no Dexterity score, IMO.

I'm not familiar with the character, but looking at the miniature, I think she's capable of moving (at least arms and head), right? A creature without a Dexterity score can't move, which I think means "can't move any body part (like an intelligent sword)", not just the speed of zero.

So in 3.X terms, maybe a Huge Hill Giant with the Willing Deformity (obese) feat and the Slow trait...

PS I have the Assault of the Giants board game, and it's pretty awesome.

Oh man, I really wanted to play that one when it came out, but I never got the chance. It looked super cool.
