Ok, I want to optimize A Neutral Good Female Lesser Drow Wizard named Sarah Diamond. (I know it's a human name, don't judge me.) Here's her character sheet: https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1101461 So here's the deal on how I want to optimize Sarah. Her primary school is Transmutation. Her banned schools are Evocation and Necromancy. I include a Collegiate Wizard Feat so she can get additional spells. I'm going to choose her prestige class Master Specialist then Archmage which is a very powerful second prestige class. She pretty wants to buff herself and her party which is very good unless anybody can give me better options to optimize Sarah which will be very appreciated. :smile:

Your familiar will be too weak, trade that class feature for the PH2 ability to gain a climb, fly, or swim speed for one round at a time, Int bonus times/day. If you want to have a familiar, spend a feat on Obtain Familiar which actually counts your prestige class levels for its advancement. If doing that you may as well also get Improved Familiar as well. A better option would be Item Familiar (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/itemFamiliars.htm), make it a ring and you can always wear a glove or gauntlet over it so it can't be attacked directly or slight of handed. Invest all the skill ranks you can into it for an absurd bonus to your skill checks.

Consider trading Scribe Scroll for Improved Initiative (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#wizard). If you take Wizard 5, you can trade that level's bonus feat for Spontaneous Divination or a domain power from Complete Champion.

Consider taking two flaws (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/characterFlaws.htm) (more here (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?258440-The-quot-Best-quot-Flaws#30)) to start with two extra feats. The best ones to pick would probably be Noncombatant and Love of Nature.

If you can take the feat Ability Enhancer from Dragon Compendium, you want to have it ASAP. That makes your Bull's Strength and similar spells give +6 instead of +4, or Animalistic Power in PH2 which normally gives +2 Str, Dex, and Con instead gives +4 to all of those.

Consider taking a reserve feat, like Fiery Burst, in Complete Mage. This gives you something useful to do during combat when you don't want to spend any more spells.

Ditch the masterwork weapons and leather armor (spell failure, yuck) and get a mithral buckler. Also, your sheet shows you at Wizard 3, but your base attack and base saves need to be updated.


Master Specialist for Transmutation is actually extremely lackluster. The first three levels for two extra feats and a few other perks is worthwhile since it helps you qualify for Archmage, but I wouldn't bother with any more than that.

Paragnostic Apostle in Complete Champion is really good for filling out levels and picking up some useful and unique abilities. Generally you'll always want Spatial Awareness and Mind Over Matter, a few other abilities could provide a minor benefit to what you do but wouldn't be significant enough to invest another level IMO. Only take as many levels of this as the number of abilities you'll actually find useful, the same goes for Archmage.

Sacred Exorcist in Complete Divine is worth dipping a single level to get Turn Undead, which can power divine feats and devotion feats. It's probably worth getting to take Divine Defiance in FC2 if you think you'll ever need to counterspell an opponent. Many of the devotion feats in Complete Champion are useful enough to dip this as well.

Divine Oracle is useful for two for four levels, if you can get its feat prerequisite from the Frog God's Fane in CS instead of spending a feat on it.

Fatespinner can be useful, but consider taking only four levels to not lose spellcasting.

Incantatrix is the ultimate in optimization, try to get its prerequisite feat from the Otyugh Hole in CS instead of spending a feat on it. Just three or four levels is worthwhile due to it enabling you to apply Persistent Spell your spells and even allies' spells. You'll want Item Familiar to boost your Spellcraft check if you go this route.
