What are the thoughts on the newer Paladin/Sorcerer subclasses from Xanathar's. Conquest seems like it could be good, and Divine Soul Sorcerer seems like an easy bet for the flavor, but I'm pretty new to optimization so I don't know how effective either would be as a Sorcadin.

They mix well with each other. Combining a conquering presence with a quickened spirit guardians can be very good under the right circumstances.

The biggest difference seems to be that conquest does better with more levels in paladin than the other oaths usually put in a sorcadin. This guide hasn't been updated for Xanathar's, but does cover the idea of putting more levels into paladin, and has a ton of helpful information.

Both are excellent options. Conquest Paladin has several jump off points :
3 levels (to get the subclass, and specifically to unlock Armor of Agathys and excellent channel divinity options),
6 levels (cha to saves)
7 levels (aura to immobilize with fear)
11 levels (pick up the ability to cast Fear at level 9, aura of courage at level 10 to help with Fear's friendly fire, and divine smite at level 11)

Any of these can work, though the 3 levels version works best if you also have the option of using cantrips from SCAG to get more than one attack per turn. Conquest is one of the most single-class-viable options for Paladins out there.

On the sorcerer side, both Divine Soul and Shadow are excellent options. Divine Soul brings a lot to the table, including a clutch 2d4 when you're about to fail a concentration save to keep Fear going. The ability to snipe Cleric spells is, quite frankly, absurdly good. Shadow brings the ability to play Darkness shenanigans to the table, which can be useful when you're fighting something immune to fear. It also gives you much-needed Darkvision on races that don't inherently have it, so that's a big plus.
