View Full Version : Rules Q&A Need help defining which spells Temporal Repair actually affects!

Hellow fellow Scriberinos

So I was looking at Temporal Repair(DM#350), and I was wondering, which spells it would be reasonable to assume it affects, in the nature of RAI.

As far as I can tell it affects 0 spells with a RAW reading (Since no spell has [Time] as a descriptor), but that's probably down to poor design and seems lame, so considering the idea behind it as well as its fluff, what spells are we to consider affected?

Time Stop?
The Celerity series of spells?
What else?

Thanks!

PS: I know the spell has a DM discretion caveat, but I wanted to know which spell you guys thought would be fair!

Time Stop just speeds up the caster so fast it appears to him that everything else has stopped for its duration.

It's not a descriptor, it says spells with "time" in their name. Also keep in mind that it only suppresses such spells if they're lower level than the Temporal Repair, so you would need to Heighten it to a 9th level slot and use Earth Spell to make it count as 10th level to suppress a Time Stop.

Time Regression (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/timeRegression.htm) and Time Hop (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/timeHop.htm), probably also Temporal Acceleration (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/temporalAcceleration.htm).

It could even be useful in fighting a Phane (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/abomination.htm#phane), if it's (epic) Heightened to 10th+ level.

Cool observation about the Phane!

Right, but Time in the name it not a mechanic. I could call a spell "Good old Time" make it apply some AC bonus and the fluffy rules text of Temporal Repair would then affect it, thats why I said we really needed a descripter for it to be mechanically sound in 3.5... like fire spells has the fire descripter... and so on.

Anyways, if timestop is affected, albeit only on a failed caster level check, then I assume spells that speed up the actions of another character within the area are effected as well, not withstanding that they might be higher level than Temporal Repair.

So I posits the following as spells, powers and abilities that are indeed affected by temporal reapair:

Backslip (Ps) (CPsi)
Celerity (PHB2)
Celerity, Greater (PHB2)
Celerity, Lesser (PHB2)
Haste (PHB)
Teleport through Time (WotC Archives)
Temporal Acceleration (EPH)
Temporal Distillation (Su) (CPsi)
Temporal Jolt (DM#350)
Temporal Stasis (PHB)
Temporal Strike (Ps) (CPsi)
Time Hop + mass (EPH)
Time Regression (EPH)
Time Shield (DM#350)
Time Stands Still (ToB)
Time Stop (PHB)
Timeless Body (Ps) (CPsi)
Timeless Step (Ps) (CPsi)

Would this be a reasonable list, considering the fluffiness of the spell's rules text?

Could you describe what it is/does? Not all of us have every issue of Dragon Magazine catalogued :smalltongue:.

You should be able to find it here...

Scribd has Dragon issues for viewing, or you can purchase a download, {Scrubbed}. Find it on page 62/77, the page number at the bottom of the page itself is 78: {Scrubbed}

A simple google search should do it in terms of finding the spell and what it does

I would add Slow to the list for sure.
What about Temporal Repair itself?

What about Temporal Repair itself?

Indeed...

So the list so far is:
Amulet of Second Chances (MiC)
Backslip (Ps) (CPsi)
Celerity (PHB2)
Celerity, Greater (PHB2)
Celerity, Lesser (PHB2)
Haste (PHB)
Slow (PHB)
Teleport through Time (WotC Archives)
Temporal Acceleration (EPH)
Temporal Distillation (Su) (CPsi)
Temporal Jolt (DM#350)
Temporal Repair (enemy caster) DM#350)
Temporal Stasis (PHB)
Temporal Strike (Ps) (CPsi)
Time Hop + mass (EPH)
Time Regression (EPH)
Time Shield (DM#350)
Time Stands Still (ToB)
Time Stop (PHB)
Timeless Body (Ps) (CPsi)
Timeless Step (Ps) (CPsi)

Assuming the above list of spells and abilities are effected, would it be worth it to make a Heightened, Widened, Selective Temporal Repair into a Permanent Emanation?

Would that be any good, would it be worth the trouble and the feat investment??
