"Damage reduction 10/magic, darkvision 60 ft., freeze"

Some entries have low-light vision listed and others only list darkvision and some list both. How does this work? Does it mean that if they don't list low-light vision that they only see everything in black & white (darkvision)?

If they don't have low-light vision but have Darkvision, they see just as well as a human up to the point that it'd incur penalties. From then on it sees like Darkvision. In character, you see normal colors in normal light, and in low-light you'd have a hard time seeing colors(just like a normal human would have a hard time seeing colors in the dark), but you can identify creatures without penalty. You don't have to 'switch' between normal vision and darkvision, so while you might have trouble seeing colors at first glance(you'd probably need a low spot check, much lower than the normal needed to detect the creature normally), you see the creature's outline and general appearance with no problem.

Outside the range of Darkvision though, you're in the dark. Things pop in and out of your vision by entering and leaving the 60' range. This doesn't happen with creatures that also have low-light vision, unless they're in total darkness.

Thanks for clearing that up. Much appreciated :)

Darkvision only works in total darkness, but does nothing to help them see in shadowy illumination. Low-light vision can see twice as far in shadowy conditions, but it doesn't help in total darkness.

Just for clarification, the SRD states, at the end of the Darkvision description, "The presence of light does not spoil darkvision.". So it still works in shadowy illumination, you don't get any penalties.

Right, it doesn't allow you to see any better in shadowy illumination, it just allows you to see into total darkness out to that distance.
