this is just a little funny puzzle i just figured.

a beholder has an antimagic cone projecting out of his main eye. this antimagic negates all supernatural abilities.
the antimagic cone is itself a supernatural ability.

so, what happens when 2 beholders stare at each other and their antimagic cones overlap?

One shuts off the other, but the one that does the shutoff still is shutting things down in its area. So no noticeable difference.

that's such a boring answer. I was hoping for some stroboscopic effect with the antimagic entering a resonance of on-off

Two or more antimagic fields sharing any of the same space have no effect on each other. (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/antimagicField.htm)

According to the book on beholders, they negate each others powers, causing them to spend ages spinning in a circle trying to get a shot in, while uselessly biting at each other (since their natural AC is way more effective that their bite attack)

AMFs are immune to other AMFs, so they'd both keep working. However, the rest of their eye abilities would be shut down. Given their low bite accuracy, this means Beholders that get into fights tend to end up as rather drawn-out affair resembling two volleyballs running into each other over and over unless it's an ambush or terrain favors one.
Lords of Madness actually has a section about this, because the default reactions of beholders that meet is to instantly start murdering each other.

This is one reason why beholders use minions so often...

"We had a nice Thanksgiving Family Reunion.

2 weeks later, the witnesses to the scene described it as "like a horde of flying dodgeballs trying to knock each other out of the air very poorly""
