Can you apply spell oils to weapons?

I'm looking at potions and oils section in pf. I'm seeing that you can like spread a spell oil to a target, and have it immediately affected.

I could have sworn that you could spread an oil on a weapon like a poison - obviously not poisoning the weapon, but the guy who's getting stabbed with it.

Am I just misremembering things and those were instead some special oils, and not spell oils?

Oils are basically potions that target items - it's why Magic Weapon comes as an oil, for example. They do not, in normal usage, apply a spell effect to a victim that you hit with the oiled weapon.
