Life Simulation games that aren't The Sims

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for life simulation games that aren't Either the Sims or a cheap sims clone? I'm considering as a life simulation game anything that focuses on the day to day and emotional lives of a group of characters. Something with elements of action/adventure in it as well would be super cool. I've played the Sims Medieval and enjoyed that but it's pretty limited. Attractive 3d graphics and character customization are both big pluses, but not required. I guess. Needs to be available for either PC or PS4.
