View Full Version : 3rd Ed Way to turn a familiar/animal companion into a statue? Where's this option?

I vaguely remember some feat or magic item or alternative feature or SOMETHING, somewhere, in either D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder 1e, that allowed you to turn your familiar (possibly your animal companion?) into a tiny statue/figurine, or otherwise have a method to keep it with you where it wouldn't otherwise be able to go where animals wouldn't be welcome, or able to climb, or whatever. Does anyone know what I am thinking of and where it is? Thanks!

Carry companion spell from Pathfinder does that. You need an animal or magical beast with helpful attitude. One possible use gathering some whales with it, flying over whatever you want splatted by whales, drop the statues and cast dispel magic to dispel your own spell (automatic success).

Well it's from the Drizzt books, and as far as I know had no actual mechanical source before that. Just good 'ol snowflake powers.

But they made it a feat in dragon mag, and Pathfinder also has a feat for it. The dragon mag feat Token Familiar lets you turn a familiar into a statuette, while the pathfinder Companion Figurine specifically lets you use a Figurine of Wondrous Power- of course there's no panther figurine either, but hey.

I think you are looking for Statue (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/statue.htm).. ^^

not familiar specific, but does the job you are looking for.

No, it doesn't, it doesn't turn it into a fine sized statue, which is what I was going for.

The feat you're looking for is "Token Familiar".

I've been itching to do a pokemon-flavored build with that for ages...

OP is this not what you were looking for? It appears to be on every relevant list except Summoner and Spiritualist, both of which have other (better?) ways to make their companions portable anyway.

Statue + Shrink Item

Side comment: If I recall correctly, one cannot use Shrink Item spell on a magic item.

https://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/shrinkItem.htm[/URL]]You are able to shrink one nonmagical item....

Items or creatures transmuted by a transmutation spell (and similar) retain transmutation magic (see detect, among other things) and thus cannot be targeted by Shrink Item.

Though there is a way around that with psionics.

I could see that working. Duskblade, extra familiar, improved familiar.

D&D 3.5e has the familiar pocket spell, which isn't what you're looking for, but it does give you a small extra-dimensional space to hide your familiar.

Bolded for emphasis.

It was actually Token Familiar from Dragon Magazine, a 3.5e Feat, that I wanted. Thanks though!
