Yeah, does anyone remember this golden Gem? I loved it like I never thought I'd loved.....anything.Favorite episode, probably the one with the Mr. B Natural in it......
Quotes(Just from that short to!)

"MOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"
"Um, Mr. B Natural what would you know about Dignity?"
"Ok we're just in a whole wierd area here."
"Yeah, you were the snake."

Anyone else who loved that show? Favorite episodes? And what killed the show? I personally think it was sci-if channel, but thats just me.

I really miss mst3k I dont know if I have a favorite but every once and aswile I think of teen age cave man. "If I was a flintstone ayuba duba duba duba duba dooo" I really liked Geole (spelling?) Mike was good to once I got used to him. I do agree with you Sci-fi channel became as bad as fox for supporting there shows. Farscape was the only reason I watched that channel after awile once that was canned I dont care any more.

Really, Sci-fi killed it since-A.They could only use sci-fi movies so it lost some of its charm. B.They couldn't do shorts. C.They aren't a good support network. D.They killed the Budget even more.

I mean who was in charge during the movies budget was decided?

Awesome show. I think my favorite episode for introducing it to new folks has got to be "Space Mutiny", just so goofy and inane (just quoting the nicknames for the "hero" can get me and my coworkers giggling like little girls).

I think the primary reason it died on the Sci-Fi channel, despite being one of the ratings leaders they had was this: when Best Brains moved the show from Comedy Central to SFC, they retained full ownership of the overall rights, and cable channels (and networks more and more) these days demand a (large) piece of the back end action on DVD sales and syndication sales. This was probably a large reason why Comedy Central dropped it in the first place as well.

If you haven't heard of it yet, Mike Nelson and others from the show have recorded a series of "riff tracks" to play along with various movies on DVD to at least somewhat simulate the experience of the original MST3K, and the good thing is that they don't have to worry about those pesky rights issues. :smallwink:

I loved mst3k when I could find it while flipping channels every so often. Actually, I think I remember watching it as mst2k at one time, unless I'm just making that up (which just goes to show how old I'm getting). I can't remember a particular episode that I loved from the television series when I watched it, but we do have "The Essentials" movie DVD that was released a while back, which has "Manos" The Hands of Fate and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. "Manos" is just hilarious, and I may have to play the DVD again, soon, to relive all of those great moments!

My family had rented "Mystery Science Theater 3000, the Movie" on VHS, as cable-watching co-workers of dad's had recommended. Cue my dad wandering into the room about 30 minutes into the movie being lambasted, looking at the screen, and realizing aloud, "I saw that in the movie theater when I was a kid. . ." The realization that people had actually paid to watch an MST3K movie was worth more comedy gold than any moment in the series!

It's my dad's favorite movie. Our viewing was filled with my brother and I laughing out heads off with him sitting there complaining that they didn't show the good parts.

I would find it funny when MST3k would run a movie with commentary, then a few weeks later, Sci Fi would run that SAME movie...but just the movie...

Old School Sci-Fi was a trip. They don't run the classics anymore...well except for endless twilight zone rerun marathons...

Wow, I was addicted to that show when I was younger. I have about 70 or so episodes on VHS. My favorite was probably Manos, but simply because it was soooo damn painful to watch, my friends and I made up a game. Any time they say Manos or Torgo, you take a swig of your beer. It is BRUTAL!

However, I did love the skits they did too. Especially FRANK radio.

Try searching on Youtube for basically ANY episode of MST3k. They're all segmented into 9-10 parts but it's worth finding some more of the gems.

Also, as for the Sci-fi channel; they eventually relented on the no shorts policy by season 9 (which only had like two shorts), but on TOP of the reasons listed for why the show was canceled there was at the time a new president (of the channel) who was getting comfy in her seat of power and wanted to move the channel on to new ground.

...Which presently as it stands means throwing money away to MAKE bad movies like a House of the Dead sequel and a Beowulf film in which our hero miraculously discovers the gattling crossbow time warped in from Van Helsing. And among re-runs of Highlander, Xena, and the Incredible Hulk, they've managed two gems with Farscape and Stargate. This was about 8 years since.

Leaving alot of the rest of the programming up in the air and usually giving us something lame or from Re-run land. Way to go.

The biggest irony of all of this is that in an interview Kevin Thompson ( The voice of ole Tom Servo) explained that the reason MST got onto Comedy Central (and at the time, top billing) was that a 2 hour long show would easily fill up and entertain more airtime when the channel didn't have suitable programming that would garner viewers.

Might I suggest that the multi-disc "packs" from Rhino.com are very enjoyable and reasonable?

A pleasant blend of Joel and Mike... for the afficianado.

Any comments on Joel vs. Mike? I'm personally a Joel fan, but Mike most definately had some comedy gold moments...

Could've sworn there was a Punch McHardfist and Chesthair McStipply in there somewhere...maybe not.

I still remember one of the best lines from I think Space Mutiny (whichever movie used the old BSG ship models).

"So nice of you to give the dead girl another chance, sir."

Space Mutiny was one of the best episodes. Highlights include:

-Screwed-up continuity!
-Dancing alien babes that do nothing but (try to) look sexy!
-Railing kills!
-Miniskirts on old women!
-Railing kills!
-Cap'n Claus!
-Climatic golf cart chase!

I also remember Devilfish, just for the horrible meandering and because they had to censor out the balls shot.

Go to youtube or google rifftrax. They have their own website where they do more than just the old MST3K stuff but lots of new stuff too. I wasted most of my christmas vacations during high school and college watching MST3K on Comedy Central.

Oh god, I miss the good old days. Any of the ones with Hercules were great.

As for the shorts, I think "Last Clear Chance"
"Escuse me, but could you identify this bucket of your brother?" One of the best lines ever.

I found 'Overdrawn at the Memory Bank' actually passably good, for a B-movie. Well, maybe it was just because I watched it at 2:00 in the morning...

This is a great show, and one of my all time favorites. The idea of the show is absolutely brilliant (I mean who hasn't sat around and made fun of bad movies). this was the sole reason to get up on Saturdays before noon after I grew out of cartoons.

MST3K has to be my favorite US-made show ever. The first two episodes I ever watched were one of the Hercules movies (I forget which..the one with Herc whipping around some chains at some point near the end..anti-spiked-chain people may want to skip that ep :smalltongue: ) and Fugitive Alien 2. Dad and I spent years trying to get as many eps as possible on tape and ended up with a massive tape collection. Then the era of large hard drives and cable/dsl internet permitted us to fill in the gaps and get what eps we already had in a non-degrading format. We also have almost all of the DVD releases.

Once on New Years Eve, a friend and I went to hang out at dad's and watch some MST. I had earlier made a D&D character named Torgo, who was a tiefling wizard, so I had to show him Manos. I remember telling him, "Once you see the original Torgo you'll see how hilarious it is that the wizard Torgo has a dex of 20." I also seem to remember hearing that my uncle had seen Attack of the the [sic] Eye Creatures when he was younger. He seemed to remember it being at least somewhat scary at the time.

And there are far too many great quotes from the series to properly catalog on such a forum. Some of my favorites:

Torgo: "I will protect you--" Joel: "--cuz there's some weird people around here."

Servo: "There's Torgo, he's rounding the Master, headed for the straightaway and there he goes!"

Crow, at the beginning of Prince of Space (a Japanese movie): "So is this going to be a super-violent porn cartoon?" Later into the movie, also Crow: "I just gotta pick up some violent porn comics."

Servo, about 3/4 through Starfighters: "Ya know guys, I think we're at the point where something's got to happen."

Servo (I think) during Overdrawn at the Memory Bank: "Someone wanna turn off the fat, rotating guy?"

And who could forget, "They took out the Hitler Building!!" (Invasion of the Neptune Men)

Mike: "So are they ignoring the fact that there's a giant walking around outside?"

Joel, as the infamous "Pile-on Pete": "I'm having a personal pants pile-on."

During the credits for Painted Hills..Servo: "Oh, Pilot Pete" Joel: "Are our faces red."

Mike, as Rowsdower: "Oh, no I don't go map finding behinding."

Crow: "So, Rowsdower, is that a stupid name?" (asked as one would ask if a certain name was Polish or Italian or something like that)

These are just samples of course. Space and memory don't permit a full cataloging here.
