Funny little thing I discovered while thumbing through the Monster Manual. The Yochlol can use its mist form to make itself immune to not just nonmagical attacks, but all nonmagical damage. So, if it does that in a Dead Magic zone, it becomes immune to all damage, except for a Monk's Ki-infused fists and a Warlock's Pact Weapon. If the Yochlol then flies out of their reach, then they can't hurt the creature at all unless they have nonmagical flight or Improved Pact Weapon.

You could also grapple the yochlol and drag it out of the deadmagic zone. For some reason they're not immune to being grappled or restrained even in mist form.

Also, technically it can never change back into its normal form, because that requires an action, and it's incapacitated while in mist form.

That's hilarious, and you're right. Even if your athletics is atrocious, eventually you are going to succeed, since it can't actually hurt you. Nor can it escape the grapple, because that would require an action.

Even better--per PHB errata, grappling now autosucceeds against an incapacitated target, such as a Yochlol in mist form. Even with Str 3 you cannot fail.

It seems that Vampires are the same in that they're also unable to escape their Mist Forms as they're also unable to take Actions (which is the only way to change back).

Not true the text says they revert automatically when returning to their resting place no action required.

That's only for Misty Escape.

Look at the Shapechanger rule.
