Given a wizard powerful enough to build a permanent version of Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion which houses him and his assistants. What kinds of memorabilia would this wizard have in his public study (where guests might see them)? Private study (for his own edification and study)?

I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Arcane statues (these are spells that the wizard has scribed three dimensionally) material samples from specific locations from his adventures to aid in teleportation or find the path casting.

Back up material components for his spells (several versions of the imprisonment spell could end up taking enough space that you wouldn't want to haul it all around all the time)

A partly completed shield guardian.

A sentient fire elemental in the fireplace.

The Wizard class is based around the scholarly archetype, so scholar-ish stuff like:
- Lots of books.
- A diploma, or several.
- Pens, brushes, inkwells, and other writing tools.
- Letters and notes; correspondence from many various acquaintances.
- Maps, perhaps with pins and string, drawn to illustrate or corroborate events from one or more books.

Additionally:
- A half-written spell.
- Discharged magic items.
- A glass bottle containing a bound Succubus or Incubus, shelved and saved for a special occasion.
- Something cursed, and the Wizard is either trying to break the curse or replicate its functionality.

A hidden staircase down from the room above.

A demi-lich skull surrounded by erotic books and Sear’s catalogues.

Thousands of plastic boxes, bags and bins containing spell and potion components for your skull buddy to keep track off.

A brass summoning circle in the corner.

A food bowl for your huge, grey, tail-less cat. A food bowl for your even larger grey puppy.

A brazier for warmth on those cold Chicago nights.

A comfy bath robe.

A 1:1 scale copy of Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man.
Dozens of glass bottles containing live, shrunken versions of different monsters and demi-humans.
An extensive Alembic set up that does nothing but brew coffee.
Hovering near the ceiling, a scale model of the solar system with the sun providing light for the room. The planets orbit the sun at a vastly accelerated rate.
A large perch from some kind of large flying animal. The animal is not present, but a layer of "bird" poop covers the perch giving evidence of fairly recent occupation.
A collection of "Double Dee Dwarves" magazines.
Only the right half of six different pairs of boots.
An enchanted humanoid skill that, when touched, sings just the chorus of "Just a Gigalo." (I ain't got no BODY, No BODY cares for me, No BODY, NO BODY."
A wand that, when activated, casts "Bigby's Back Scratching Hand."
A "Pull the rabbit out of the hat" trick hat. Unfortunately, it's been some time since he remembered to feed the rabbit...
Audry II (Little Shop of Horrors)
A full-scale model of Da Vinci's flying machine.
A 1930's era Periodic Table of Elements
A 1st Edition copy of "Deities and Demi-Gods." The one with Cthulhu.
A "Common to Gibbering Mouther dictionary
A Minnesota Vikings pennant
A bottle labeled "Dehydrated Gelatinous Cube: Just add Water!"
The Glave from the movie "Krull" (not an actual weapon...the movie prop.)
A barrel full of rejection letters from various publishers for a game called "People and Paychecks".
A drawer full of bailing twine.
A Lava lamp.
An autographed copy of The Beatles "White Album".
The door knockers for "The Labyrinth". (Actual talking ones, not puppets.)

Public study: research library, scrying tools, impressive looking but rarely used arcane equipment.
Private study: Clones.

I used to use the names of different handbook posters and their handbook names as books in my settings, like Gnorman's Practical Demonkeeping and Treantmonk's Guide to Being a God.

Also anything Merlin has in the Disney King Arthur seems fair.

A stuffed alligator hanging from the ceiling.

And maybe some pre-dribbled candles?

A young dragon sliced into layers, each encased between two panel of glass. Under a certain point of view, it would appear complete (when guest enter the room), but as soon as they move further they would realize better.

A comfy chair, a reading desk, a bed only slightly comfier than the chair, a corner filled with whatever creature comforts are appropriate for their familiar, and a personal mini-fridge.

You said this was the study and not the lab, right?

A treadmill or bowflex or similar, clothes hanging from it and dust covering the exposed parts.

Actually, to that point, he would probably have many dissection rooms, each for a different arcane creature.

A sentient fire elemental in the fireplace.

Don't forget the door to Wales :smallwink:

A wardrobe filled with nothing but 50 identical robes and 247 odd socks.

An enchanted writing desk, with the ability to make the wizard's words appear on paper

An intelligent raven, which insists that it is nothing like the writing desk.

A giant stone obelisk dedicated to a long dead god.

A half-eaten meal.

Something that explodes. Ideally randomly.

In the private study is a complete gym and training dummies along with a collection of upcast haste scrolls. Who says the wizard has to be the weakling. This one does twice the reps the fighter or barbarian does.

As far as mechanically significant items, a guardian portrait of themselves or one of their old masters is probably on the wall of their private study.

Lots of sparkly things, skulls, bones, trinkets. I play my wizards with the self control and tact of a jewel crazed magpie when it comes to decorating.

Locking door to hallway. Second door to master bedroom/trance room.

Fireplace to keep warm on long cold nights of research and entertaining with a pair of comfy chairs with a table for debating, conversing, and drinking brandy. In whatever order is preferable.

A fancy and well stocked working desk and chair. Ink, papers, writing instruments, scotch, ect.

A chaise lounge for when you are want to read while feeling just that little bit extra.

A removable rug to fill the floor when you aren't drawing chalk pentagrams and magic circles over it.

Chalkboard to save paper when figuring out complex equations. Preferably mobile.

Wall to wall double stacked bookcases full of references, treatises, letter collections and various collectibles covering at least two entire walls minimum. Sliding ladder equipped.

Locking caged door bookcase for displaying rare collections. Glyph of Warding trapped with book safe spell effect of choice.

Closed door and locking bookcase for smut. For when you are feeling just a little bit extra. Glyph of Warding trapped with non-book safe spell effect of choice to destroy the evidence.

Bookcase with a switch to make it slide away leading to a coupled rising staircase to the secret attic laboratory.

Even more secret switch at the end of the rising staircase accessible only if the stairs and bookcase are reset from behind the bookcase leading to the actual secret basement laboratory.

A chosen one young boy locked in the space below the stairs for a rainy day.
A basilisk, a three headed dog, a giant spider and a half giant taking care of his full giant half brother.
Dragon eggs in an incubator.
Teacher's notes for a class on levitation spells.
Seven flying brooms and some enchanted balls.
A secret underground train station you can reach by walking through a wall (or an iron fence, but I honestly feel that would make it too easy.)
A spell scroll with no description of what it does. If the players decide to cast it it creates living chocolate animals.
Anything else you can borrow from Harry Potter.
