Inspired by the New Meat thread which was all about finding new meats...

Nah, who am I kidding? The shop I go to was out of pumpkins. I've already mocked the local supermarket ones, what I need is an alternative vegetable.

I think the actual practice was based upon a myth about turnips, so you could always hollow out one of those. Or onions. Nothin' scarier than a glowin' onion.

Yeah, the fact that Pumpkins aren't native to Ireland should have given that away.

How about Mr. Potatoe Head, but on fire?

Squashes are sort of like pumpkins; you could try one of those.

What about a marrow if you want a pumpkin like theme? Or a relatively unripe squash?

Or, you could follow what the course my friend did. He got together loads of fruit and wax, and made an effigy figure, and lit its eyes with candles. To little kids (:smallannoyed: ) from a distance it looks like you have a captured dead dwarf... :smallamused:

A cucumber could certainly make for an interesting one...

Go with hairy Kiwi Fruit instead. Turn it sideways and carve it to look like Vorpal Tribble. Come on.... you know you want to.

FYI folks, cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelons, squashes, and eggplants are NOT vegetables!

...

Carry on.

FYI folks, cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelons, squashes, and eggplants aubergine are NOT vegetables!

Aubergine is by far a better name for it. :smallamused:

"Aubergine Wizard" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Only someone truely unimaginative would make a jack-o-lantern out of a fruit/veg. A realy awesome person would use papermache and bacon.

Why do you need paper mache? Bacon is plenty enough to make a good lantern.

Hehe...what do you call a dwarf with fire for it's eyes?
A hell-dwarf!!

I'm tempted to try that, gracias for the idea ;)

Even better is live pigs.
You get enough glue and duck-tape and you could have the best Sus-O-Lantern on the block.

I guess that makes me unimaginative and ignorant of the fruit/vegetable matter. I was in a rush my house mate wanted to play his computer games.

Anyway

It doesn't really show on the camera but the outer skin glows. It looks like a glow in the dark tortoise.

And now I want to get my Mr. Potato Head (or, perhaps, Darth Tater), remove all the pieces except the feet (so it leaves a creepy, blank potato face on top of some bright blue shoes) and just put a tea light or something inside it...

Man, that pineapple is awsome. In the past, I've considered trying a different fruit/vegetable, but I've always been to lazy to do it.
