Ok so I do not understand Prestige Class Casting. Can some please explain?

What specific prestige class were you looking at? There are classes that advance the casting from your base class at a rate that's given in the table, and classes that have completely independent spellcasting.

Like let's say I have have as an example 3 levels of wizard and I want to to take arcane trickster and at 1st level and it says you +1 level of an existing so does that mean I get the casting of a level 4 wizard?
