Hello.

So a Paladin can do this:
The presence of strong evil registers on your Senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any Celestial, fiend, or Undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover.

But there's this description of a rakshasa:
The Rakshasa can't be affected or detected by Spells of 6th level or lower unless it wishes to be.

Thus, I'm not sure if the party Paladin can detect the presence of a Rakshasa. Please advise.

Paladins are not casting a spell, so I see no reason Rakshasa would not detect.

Divine Sense is a class ability, not a spell. The Paladin can totally detect a the presence of a Rakshasa provided it meets the requirements of the ability (within 60ft and not behind total cover).

As others have said, it's not a spell so it works but:

The paladin can sense the presence of a very evil creature - but this ability does not give them any power to KNOW it is a Rakshasa specifically. As Rakshasa habitually assume the identities of others, it is likely the paladin will sense the strong evil in 'that guy' and that it is 'fiendish' but not know it is a Rakshasa.
