I'm playing with the Mummy Lord template (https://aonprd.com/MonsterTemplates.aspx?ItemName=Mummy%20Lord) and noticed it gets its own personal bucket of controlled undead. This is nice. This is real nice!

Later I 'acquired' a Fungus Queen (https://www.aonprd.com/MonsterDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Fungus%20Queen) and noticed that she doesnt just create undead spawn, she makes plant type minions too!

So a Mummy Lord Fungus Queen would have two personal pools of commanded minions!

This got me wondering, are there any other creatures which create non undead spawn or have HD based numbers of commanded minions?

The Fungal Creature (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/fungal-creature/)template can create spawn as well, and I believe there's a type of outsider that can... perhaps a Qlippoth or a Kyton, but I'm not sure.

And I'm sure it doesn't count, but oozes that can split sort of create spawn, heh.

Vargouilles can too.

This is a heavy undertaking because not all creatures that can create spawn actually call the ability "Create Spawn." And many of these don't have "control pools" either, simply making another one of themselves with its own mind.

True. My PF undeath collection-of-notes (was never really a guide) list of monsters that make undead has nearly doubled since playing this newest necromancer just due to how many different ways they word such abilities.

Added a couple of spoilered creature lists to the OP.

There are definitely some odd minionmancer monsters out there.

Humans. They breed like crazy and spread all over the world. They like to interfere to stop other people's plans.

Too true.

In other news, I'm about out of phrases that roughly mean 'create spawn' to enter into the AoN search bar.

Suggestions?

Werewolves and other lyncathropes create non undead spawn, as do aboleths.

PF Aboleths do not. It's like a disease that makes them drown on land.

And lycanthropes.. hmm. I dunno.
I was focusing on effects that change you when you're slain but effects that template you. or effectively so, could be useful too.

If nothing else, searching the key phrases from both could be fruitful, so thanks.

Whole slew of new creatures added to the OP, most of them nightmare fuel.

Seriously, why. Why so many creatures with a direct link to the ew-no-gross-WHY?! parts of my psyche.

That I'm creating this list just to template these creatures in ways that let them retain their grotesque reproduction superpowers as either Constructs or Undead doesnt make it any better.

Huh.
Incutilis Lord (https://aonprd.com/MonsterDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Incutilis%20Lord) is stupid OP.
Not only does it have the Shapesand equivalent of Kaorti Resin but better (meaning less limited) than both.

It also creates the unique RAW conundrum of corpses that are also alive. Living corpses. That of course retain all their original superpowers. Because of course they do. Works on any living corporeal creature and zombies the thing via Dex drain OR just good old fashioned damage over time one DC19 Fort save at a time.

There is SO much shenaniganery that is enabled by this.
Just fot starters, an Ostovite (https://aonprd.com/MonsterDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Ostovite) crawls inside a Calcified Creature (the Incutilis Lord's minion) and now we have one bone with two masters. It's a living corpse Construct.

Or theres the idea that being alive doesnt keep a corpse from being hit with Animate Dead or even Create Undead. For whatever reason the rules just assume corpses will be dead. Go figure.

So we could Frostfallen one of these living corpses. Does becoming an undead remove the Incutilis Lord's resin and goo that's causing this thing to also count as being alive and allow the I. Lord to control the body? Maybe? I dunno. I dont think so.
We might even have alive undead here. Which is... odd.

Then theres the old chestnut of slimes and molds being plants for the purposes of spells. Plants being objects. And now we have Animated Object brown mold that counts as an alive creature, and a Construct. Incutilis Lord hits it with Calcified Creature and now it's also a living corpse.

Is any if this useful? I dunno. Probably. Is it cool as hell and more than a little gross? Absolutely.

So, anything else we can cram in this RAW crack to blow this idea wide open?

Retooled the OP some to link associated templates and monsters, include create spawn ability descriptions, included more missed monsters, and removed monsters which didn't transform victims somehow.

Was on the fence about leaving mass mind control creatures and that one that just forcefully reincarnates its victim but those are powerful enough and weird enough to merit inclusion if for no other reason than as unique examples.

Hit dice amounts were included as this list is originally for a necromancer and Frostfallen are commanded under the Animate Dead bucket which is limited by HD.
A lot of these monsters are way above a low level necromancer's pay grade though. Those critters would more likely get the Mummified Creature or even Mummy Lord templates instead.

As I work on this list I'm starting to imagine a secret sewer war between followers of Lamashtu and those of Shub- Niggurath with body horror and HR Geiger inspired scene dressings being the themes of the day.
Deep in the slums and putrid cesspits of some fabulous metropolis the two factions vie for human resources. Each horde of monstrosities begins feeding on the other transforming one abomination into another and vice versa.
Meanwhile some plucky your adventuring party gets trapped in the sewers with these two bodysnatching factions and you wind up with a one-shot that plays out much like the movie The Descent (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435625/).

Found more minion makers and had to remove the copypasta of the create-spawn-like abilities because character counts are a thing.

Fungus Queen and Incutilis Lord are still the MVPs though. Nothing else has quite the same accessible CR combined with meaty superpowers that those two have.

Don’t know if it is a monster or a hazard these days but - green slime?

Hazard. (https://www.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?Name=Slimes,%20Molds,%20and%20Fungi&Category=Dungeon%20Terrain) And I'm not seeing how it could create any sort of spawn though.

Really the worst kind. Their methodes of attacking is based on overpopulating and then massivelly consuming resources, and creating massive quantities of waste that turn into blight and destroy the area they live in.

Q
Fungus Queen's bucket for controlling plant minions is limited by HD.
But her Spore Zombies get 2 extra HD from the template.
And we're hitting the vermin with Raise Dead so she can re-kill them.

What HD value are we actually subtracting from her control bucket?
