Just a weird question I had. God power uses soul currency, and we know if you run out of said currency you die. Maybe there is a certain very expensive amount for direct comms on prime material that TDO is either too broke or too stingy to pay?

I think that contact was initiated by the vampire as Hel says "My high priest is ready for me to make contact." (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots1084.html) I would guess he cast Communion since that was what Thor recommended Durkon use to get in contact.
