Hi! Myself and a group of friends are working together to create an app that helps connect people with extra food with local people who'd like it. It'd be a great help if you could further our research by taking this survey.

Given that your very first question is "Where are you located? (City, State) *", are you limiting yourself to a particular country (which I assume in your case would be the USA), or do you also want input from other countries?

Yeah, it's US, although I don't think it'd be out of line to get a few out of country responses for variety. We DO want it to be able to work most everywhere, eventually.

For years I've been wanting some way of ensuring that my excess food could be brought to the people who need it most. My family has always donated to various food banks, etc., but sometimes I just have a couple slices of pizza that I don't want, and I really hate throwing it away.

Filled out your survey, and hoping you'll post more information about the app when it's ready for use. Speaking of which, I can see how it would work for those of us fortunate to have a little extra--but how are you going to match donors with people in need?

Glad you like the idea! Tell your friends. Well, keeping in mind that it's still in preproduction, the general idea is that it's sort of like Craigslist, where you could just make post/listing akin to "Ey' I got some stuff, who want (Picture of stuff here)" And someone picks up the listing and you work out pickup. It's a bit more complicated than that for safety's sake, but you get the general idea. It's a community-building sort of thing.

So, how will you be able to tell between people who are in genuine need, and those who are just looking to cadge a little free food?

I'm happy to donate to those who are having real trouble, but I'm concerned this may be flooded with people trying to take advantage of the system.
