Does a feat exist to reduce the level adjustment for applying a metamagic feat to a spell? I'm specifically looking to reduce the +1 penalty for using the Imbue Summoning Metamagic feat.

There are several options. Do you want to reduce its adjustment to a specific spell? Arcane Thesis will do that. (-1 to the adjustments of all metamagic feats applied to the spell you do your thesis on.)

Otherwise, there are class features for the Incantrix and Dweomerkeeper that will reduce the level adjustment of all metamagic you use, though they're a bit costly to get in terms of levels.

Can I use Arcane Thesis on all Summon Monster spells or do I have to take the feat for each one?

I've got an arcane conjuration expert in the works who based on the progression with be entering the master specialist prestige class, and will have imbue summoning by level 9

There was the 'Easy Metamagic' feat in Dragon Magazine #325. It requires you to have a metamagic feat with at least a +2 adjustment, reduces the adjustment by 1 to a minimum of +1 and applies only to a single metamagic feat you know. You can take it multiple times, choosing a new feat each time.

In Mongoose Publishing's Ultimate Prestige Classes there is a class called the 'Arcane Avatar'. Among various other overpowered abilities, the Arcane Avatar chooses two of his metamagic feats and reduces their adjustments by 1 to a minimum of 0.

I think there's a feat in an actual WotC book that does what your asking, but I'm not sure. These are the only ones I know of for sure.

Edit: Arcane thesis, that's the one.

Also, Metamagic School Focus will lower it by one for an entire school of magic, but only 3 per day.

Well poop.
On the plus side, all this really means is that I'll have to use some of my higher level slots @ level 9 to summon up some crazy creatures.

Thanks folks.

You need to be Epic for the really good level reduction:
Improved Metamagic [Epic]

Prerequisites: Four metamagic feats, Spellcraft 30 ranks.

Benefit: The spell slot modifier of all your metamagic feats is reduced by one level, to a minimum of +1. This feat has no effect on metamagic feats whose spell slot modifier is +1 or less.

Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. The effects stack, though you can’t reduce any metamagic feat’s spell slot modifier to less than +1.

It's worth pointing out that in some ways that isn't really the best. It can't reduce metamagic to zero, which a few others can do--and it certainly can't reduce metamagic below zero, as Arcane Thesis can.

It wouldn't actually work for what the OP was asking, even, since the goal was to reduce a +1 metamagic to +0.

...not that it matters, since at that point you can just put together epic spells that summon solars permanently or whatever else you want. Technically you could even try to summon and compel gods, since the summon seed is not listed as mind-affecting.

Actually, what it says is that the spell level cannot be reduced below it's initial level. As such an Empowered Energy Substituted Arcane Thesised Fireball is lvl 3. Plus one from Empower, minus one from energy sub, remains the same level.

So I'm pretty much stuck with taking levels in either Incantrix or Dweomerkeeper.

Speaking of Dweomerkeeper, where can I find it?

Speaking of Dweomerkeeper, where can I find it? It's in a free web enhancement you can download from WotC here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040522a).

Speaking of Dweomerkeeper, where can I find it?Unfortunately, it's not so simple. Dweomerkeeper requires 10 levels to get metamagic reduction; Incantrix required 8 in 3.0 (I forget the 3.5 version at the moment.) Neither of those will fit in well with the prestige class you already want to take.
