View Full Version : D&D 3.x Other Would these alternate rules for smaller characters work well? [P.E.A.C.H.]

How do you think this set of three rules will effect my game? They are especially important because there is a pretty attractive option for a Diminutive Cohort (said race will almost certainly be the subject of a thread within the next 24 hours). Secondarily is that many PCs will be Small.

1.) Creatures swallowed whole by a creature at least 4 size classes larger than them can use 1-handed weapons (in addition to light weapons) to cut their way free. If there is at least 5 size classes of difference they can also use two-handed weapons.
2.) Enlarge and Reduce spells will follow the monster advancement rules for size changes for Dexterity, To-Hit, and Armor Class. They still will not affect Constitution or Natural Armor. As for Strength, Medium to Small or Small to Medium will still be a 2 point change, Diminutive/Fine changes will be a 2 point change to Strength (to a minimum of 1 when reducing), Large/Medium changes will be 4 points(instead of 8) and otherwise will follow the (normal/reversed) monster advancement rules rather than the SRD spell descriptions.
The most important parts of this are that a Reduce spell:

Used on a Diminutive Creature will give a +4 to-hit and A.C. and a -2 to Strength (Minimum result of 1). (Although the specific Diminutive race I'm using will currently always have a Strength of 1 regardless.)
Used on a small Small creature will give a -4 penalty to strength, rather than -2.

For convenience, here are the REVERSED parts of the relevant SRD table for enlarging creatures.

1Repeat the adjustment if you move up more than one size. Remember, the new carrying capacity modifier replaces the old, rather than being cumulative with it.

3.) Small weapons and ammunition are 1/2 the weight of medium items (as per R.A.W.), but for going down to Tiny, Diminutive, and Fine steps for most gear (but NOT for armor!) dividing the weight by 8 for each such step. For example a Tiny creature's weapons, ammo, rations, tent, bedroll, etc, would weigh 1/16 of a medium creature's, while a Diminutive creature's would weigh 1/128th of a medium creature's.
Similarly, the increases to Huge, Gargantuan, and Colossal are ×8, not ×2.

1In the cast of costs this is only for things where the savings on working times and raw material costs for a smaller object would logically be significant. Especially note that this means that the +300 gp cost for Masterwork items is NOT effected. The costs for Mithril and Adamantine for creatures below Small size ARE, but I haven't decided for sure how that will work since it could easily reduce the cost for, say, a light weapon much too close to the 300 gp point, if not outright below it, and the masterwork cost is supposed to be included in those material costs.
2See above note regarding uncertainty about costs for special materials.
3(Because this is for a My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic campaign.) This is as listed in the SRD, except that, the prices for sapient races that common enough (Equinoids, Monsterous Equiniods, Monsterous Humanoids, Gryphons) that they don't pay the extra costs listed for "Non-Humanoid". Dragons are a special case. While they are skilled armor-crafters, the high variations in body-shape between individuals mean that the cost is higher.
4Provides 1/2 bonus to AC, which I am going to rule includes from enhancements.
