Campaign has run from level 3 to level 16 thus far. Has been running weekly since... lessee... April 2019. You can probably tell which one is me.

Is that a wand of fireballs in your left hand?

It's the Torch of the Burning Sky.

Now that Korvin has mentioned it, that does look like a wand with fiery [hey now].

It's a magic item literally created from a powerful devil's femur bone, formerly wielded by the immortal emperor of the most powerful empire in the setting.

Nope. Huevos del Fuego. Can't unsee it.

Juvenile humor aside, the art is fantastic. I also love the details of the items - the Bard's Goggles of Night for example.

I am curious about the archer's silver breastplate - with the insect detail, I'm thinking there's got to be a story. Salvaged from the Silver Scarab's Nth metal armor?

Hi, I'm the archer!

Yes, there's a story. oh Grandmother I'm about to start rambling hold on to your hats TL;DR her first beetle breastplate was from a merchant whose signature was making garish adventuring gear, and she kept the symbol on later armor for sentimental reasons.

It all started when we were doing business with a member of the city council who was also a merchant dealing in absurdly garish adventuring gear. Ludic's character Damaia (the fashion-conscious wizard) found him appalling, but he and my archer Lachina hit it off nicely, and he offered her a free item. She was in the market for better armor, so she took a very shiny breastplate with a scarab beetle emblazoned on it.

A little later she was getting herself some better armor in the midst of the Damaia giving her a makeover (it was our first time in a proper city that wasn't besieged, and Damaia couldn't resist the opportunity), and she decided to keep the design and get it put on her new adamantine breastplate. I decided that it was the heraldic symbol of one of her people's old heroes - she has a big history/heritage thing going on, as one of her people's oral historians from birth, and the wielder of an ancient artifact weapon for the last few months - and that she chose it and kept it to honor her predecessor. And also because she thought beetles were pretty. I'm afraid I don't know who the Silver Scarab is. :P

Also, I heard someone ask whose art this was - it's one of our co-players, who is not actually pictured at the moment. There might be art of his new character somewhere, I'd have to go look.

It was drawn by another member of the party (who also drew my GitP avatar). They had to temporarily leave the campaign for a coupla months due to an IRL emergency, and upon their return surprised the party with art they had drawn of all our characters and new miniatures to match.

Their new character will have art as well, but since they were just rescued from a prison camp where captured magicians were having their power harvested en-masse to create a superweapon, they aren't suited up in anything more than rags yet.

I am curious about the archer's silver breastplate - with the insect detail, I'm thinking there's got to be a story.

In the very first city of the campaign, waaaaay back when we were tier 1, there was an eccentric gnomish merchant who sold unusually cheap adventuring gear... at the cost of being embarrassingly and outlandishly garish, matching the crafter's bizarre sense of style (he's quite a character in his own right). My own character -- an acolyte of this version of Wee Jas (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?450352-Wee-Jas-the-First-Lich) who therefore takes fashion seriously -- wouldn't touch the stuff with an 11-foot pole.

But the archer PC - a fey with inhuman culture and tastes - simply loved it, and thought the colorful insect decorations were a reference to the heraldic symbol of one of her culture's ancestral heroes. She's no longer using the garish insect armor but has put that symbol on all future armor she's gotten.

Juvenile humor aside, the art is fantastic. I also love the details of the items - the Bard's Goggles of Night for example.

Yep, there's a lot of attention to detail there, right down to our rings and such.

Woah, new miniatures too? That's really cool... and very nice on their part!

Thank you for sharing, I really liked both the art and the stories behind it!
