In some forums, you can post simply for the purpose of "bumping" it up to a higher position on the forum page. Is that acceptable here?

Until I get an answer I will assume no.

It is done sometimes, mainly with interesting themes that fall back into page two, but it is not adviced to do so unless you have good reasons to bump the thread, for example, a thread talking about a certain upcoming event, but the discussion stops before the event starts.

Why it is not adviced? Because of the threat of it becoming spam. If you just bump threads for the sake of thread bumping, you will most likely get a warning.

You can go to the Bumpitty Bump Thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57292) and bump to your heart's content, though. As long as you follow the rules.

Bumping is highly frowned upon and in most cases against the rules.

Of course, if you can find something on topic to post to the thread, that's a good way to bump without just bumping. Contribute to the conversation, and it's all good (unless, of course, we're talking about a really old thread; then you'll run into "thread necromancy" rules)
