View Full Version : Optimization Nishruu for Artifact containment

Most recently printed in Lost Empires of Faerun, the Nishruu is a Gaseous outsider with the unique ability to supress the magical function of artifacts while it is in contact with them.

Artifacts do not operate while in contact with a nishruu and for 1 round thereafter.

That seems handy and I want to industrialise it.

Step 1: Contain the Gaseous Nishruu somehow. Get creative.
Step 2: Take the Nishruu into an Antimagic Field to supress it's Absorb Magic ability, as to make it vulnerable to targeted spell effects
Step 3: Cast Invoke Magic, as to then cast Sanctum Spell Trait Removal, temporarily removing Absorb Magic without the need for AMF.
Step 4: Cast Trait Removal again to get rid of the Ex Mind Affecting immunity, dominate the Nishruu
Step 5: Order the Nishruu to enter your air-tight, ideally most durable Artifact Containment Unit of choice.
Step 6: Add other security measures, such as draining the Nishruu's mental ability scores beyond recovery so it can't plot escape later.
Step 7: Add artifact, seal it all up, wait for Trait Removal to expire.

The end result is an artifact in a secure container trapped in there with a creature who's very touch prevents its function.

Thoughts for improving upon this anyone?

If you want the artifacts to be available on-demand, stuff like this is pretty solid. Dump the whole think in Quintessence to freeze it in time forever, then make a continuous "Planar Bubble" style effect with Far Realm time traits. Instead of the artificer's favorite "a million years inside is a second outside", reverse it so that a second inside is as a million years outside, or some similar ratio. Now amything ejteeing the area that isn't immune to death by aging will cease to exist basically instantly unless they speak the password to suppress the effect.

If you just want the artifact destroyed permanently, use a handful of that one monster with at-Will "Disjunction" and control them into spamming at the artifact until it's destroyed. Doesn't risk your casting.

That looks pretty solid already, no need to do much to it.

If you psionic sandwich trick the nishruu into the artifact, does its new body (i.e. the artifact) touch itself, suppressing its own magic?

P.S. It's "whose touch", not "who's [=who is] touch".

It looks like wall of salt might be a particularly effective low-level spell for initially trapping it.

It's not clear how Nishruu reproduce, but if you can figure that out, they could potentially be farmed for item charges since it adds 1d6 charges to charged magical items upon death.
