Duelward is a spell from Complete Arcane which allows the caster under it's effect to counterspell as an immediate action. My question is, can a Sorcerer use a metamagic spell (in this case, cantrips modified by heighten spell), with this ability.

One of our players has said that Duelward only alows you to counterspell with a standard action spell (so no metamagic for the sorcerer). Is this the same with the Reactive Counterspell feat?

Your friend is right. You cannot counter with a full-round action spell. However, you could counter with a Heightened spell if you had Rapid Metamagic and/or the Metamagic Specialist alt class feature.

In all seriousness, though, if you want to counterspell, I recommend either the Noctumancer out of Tome of Magic (perhaps with the Adaptation section variant that removes the shadowcasting requirements and advancement), or my own Countercaster.

Hmmm...like the homebrew, but can't use it =(

Rapid Metamagic? Is that a feat? If so, what's the location on that?

Rapid Metamagic is either in CMage or Draconomicon, I forget.

Hopefully it's Complete Mage!
