View Full Version : Classes with Alignment-based Auras?

What are all the classes that give off auras (based on alignment)? The sort that can be detected by "detect evil", "detect good", "detect law" or "detect chaos"?

A cleric can give off aura's based on the alignment of their god, or, if godless, the alignment of their alignment domain(s) (if a godless cleric does not have an alignment domain, I guess they don't have an alignment-based class aura, just the "regular" alignment-based aura with a strength determined by HD, like a commoner might have?).

Paladins give off "good" auras. Blackguards give off "evil" auras. The UA variant paladins give off "good" or "evil" auras, as appropriate.

Incarnates give off an aura matching the non-neutral part of their alignments.

Soulborns give off auras matching their alignments.

What other classes have alignment based auras?

Bonus question: Do alignment-based class auras of the same alignment stack or overlap? If a cleric of a good god multi-classes as a paladin, do the two classes stack to determine the power of the "good" aura when a "Detect Good" spell is cast on the cleric/paladin, or is the aura of the higher level class used?

Technically, all creatures that are not true neutral give off alignment auras. Those classes just give off one a couple steps stronger than normal.

It's not a class but IIRC any character with an exalted or vile feat has a stronger than normal alignment aura. Naturally, that would mean that any class with either as a prerequisite carries such an aura.

There's no clear RAW on what happens with multiclass characters who have the aura feature for some levels but not others. The simplest option is the binary, "you either have it and it counts all your HD or you don't and it doesn't matter." The alternative requires mathing out the relationship between the aura levels and non-aura levels and then adding it all up.

Also note there are other ways to get alignment auras. Undead detect as evil, for example, and the Flexible Mind feat makes you radiate chaos.

Some other classes that mention alignment based auras:

Divine Crusader
Knight of the Pearl (stacks with Paladin)
Purifier of the Hallowed Doctrine (taint rather than alignment)
Triadic Knight (stacks with other classes)
Warrior of Darkness (mechanically just an AC bonus)
