Would it be possible to obtain an Animal Companion with the Troll-blooded feat from Dragon Magazine, the feat is a regional feat, but technically the animal companion could be obtained (or summoned, depending on how your group handles animal companions) from the selected region.
There is of course the pre-req of having toughness and only being able to take the feat at level 1, but I'm sure there are ways around that as well. (besides something janky like giving the AC flaws)
