The Orks mistake it for a particularly ornery squig and try and adopt it and/or hack it to bits and eat it. Many of them die, the survivors insist that this was the best time they've had in years.

I don't reckon the Carrion could stand up fight a hundred boyz, it seems to be troubled by relatively basic small arms fire. If it does sneaky ambushes a bit at a time they'll have gotten bored and either wandered off or killed each other be

Do the Nurglings come in swarms or individually?

...

Can I be cheeky and say "Just one-Ku'Gath"?

Second Battle:

1 Space Wolves Astartes vs ?# Nurglings

How many Nurglings could a Space Wolves Astartes handle inside a space hulk? Assume the Astartes knows that he will be facing down nurglings and has access to whatever equipment he could normally requisition aforehand. The nurglings will not stop coming until the Astartes is defeated/dead.

As many as he can burn before he runs out of fuel for his flamethrower. Or possibly 'all of them' if he's allowed to requisition ship to ship ordnance to just batter the hulk into dust rather than actually trying to board it - the normal response to a Chaos-infested hulk would be to bath it in The Emprah's Purifying Plasma Lances until it stopped existing. Assuming the Marine is permitted a defensible position (IE, he's not going to have Nurglings dropping out of vents behind/above him or tunneling under his feat) he's basically only limited by the amount of ammo he can bring, as there are a number of weapons he could select that are very well suited to area denial/cutting down swarms of small things.

Well, we've got stats for a Nurgling and stats for a Space Marine, so...

They move 5", plus a d6 advance. No advancing and charging. That means that after two rounds of fire, they can make a charge three out of four times.
In combat, they have 1 attacks that hits on a 4, wounds on a 6 (rerolling 1s), and saves on a 3. The Marine, with 2 attacks hitting on 2s and wounding on 2s, will probably splatter him in the first round, if not the second where he has 1 attack hitting on a 3 and wounding on a 2.

Though the Nurgling has a 5++/5+++ against everything.

So, the Nurgling has to handle 4 bolt shots on 3+, and 2 on 6s, for an average of 3 hits.
Wounding on 2s, that's 5/2 wounds.
Saving on a 5++/5+++, that's an average of just over one wound. But we don't really need the average.

The Nurgling makes the charge...

About 1/5 times.

The Nurgling has at least 50/50 odds of killing the Marine after...

52 attacks.

So about 250 Nurglings, I'd say.
