Had an idea inspired by an idea for a warlock patron.

Idea is boiling down to this:

At levels 5-7 you can choose an alternate feature that allows your current class to synergize more seamlessly with another.

Example:
Warlock 6- Raging Patron
Your Barbarian levels are added to your warlock level to meet prerequisites for Invocations

Scholarly Patron-
You decide whether Warlock levels count towards your Pact magic caster level or another Spellcasting feature you have to determine # and level of spell slots.

Fighter 7- Dervish
The Extra Attack feature of other classes are added to your fighter Extra attack feature to determine your total number of attacks.

Monk 6- Disciplined
All class levels add to your monk level to determine unarmed damage and movement speed.

More to come, IÂ’d love some more ideas.

So 3e had the "Ascetic" feats that allowed monk levels to stack with other class levels to advance one or two features. See here: https://www.dndtools.net/feats/complete-adventurer--54/ascetic-rogue--129/

The way 5e is, this would at minimum be a feat, but determining the balance level would be really hard as not all features are equal. I could see a house rule allowing swapping of 3rd/6th/7th, etc. level abilities with same-level abilities from similar sub-classes. Like Celestial warlock's Radiant Soul with Divine soul sorcerer's empowered healing. This however, takes a lot of work.
