For the Sorcerer Font of Magic and Sorcerer Points, it says "You can never have more Sorcery Points than shown on the table for your level." Also you can trade spell slots for Sorcery Points.

Is this limit specific to your Sorcerer levels only, or total levels if you MC?

Specifically, if a PC is a Sorc 2, Pali 16 could they swap a 5th level spell slot for 5 Sorcery Points then turn those Sorcery Points into one 1st and one 2nd level spell slot (for more divine smites)?

Anything in the classes chapter uses the class level.

If you are a sorc 2, you have all the features of a sorc 2. No more, no less. Even if you also are a pally 12.

Everything in a class description (except things overridden directly by the MC rules) pertains to class levels only. So a Sorc 2, X Y can only have 2 sorcery points period (unless they take the Tasha's feat).
