It's been a difficult but rewarding month since you first heard the proclamation.

Be it known that the council is interested in reclaiming the remaining blocks of the city of Phaladena. To reclaim said blocks they must be first cleared of monsters, vermin, and other uncivilized inhabitants. To this end the council is offering a reward to any person or group who is responsible for clearing any block of the old city.

You did as people do. Went to one of the drinking joints in town and drank until you were sure of your immortality. Then you decided to join a group of other misfits who were talking about cleaning the old city slums of orcish filth.

In the first couple of fights the orcs almost killed every one of you and only a bit of luck allowed you to win the day. You took what little money you collected from them and went back to the tavern to heal.

You don't really remember who it was that talked all of you to try again. After a couple of days of healing, restocking and thinking about your life choices you couldn't get the excitement of battle out of your head. Apparently the others had similar ideas as you somehow agreed to go to the slums again, this time with more sense and less rum.

For the next couple of weeks you laid ambushes to wandering groups of orcs. Some of your enemies got away and they started to call you the Bayou Warriors. It felt good, better than Phaladena Taxmen or Phaladena Asstrough or Phaladena Dashing Sabercats which was just too long.

You found out that the slums were never completely controlled by orcs. You met a wizard transmuter called Ohlo who hired you to find an alchemist hiding in the old rope guild compound. You eventually did, though it almost cost your lives again...

Taking a wrong turn in the maze of shacks that was the guild compound ended in a meeting with your group and some ogres and trolls. Three of your crew ended up killed by trolls that day. Only burning that section of the slums down to kill the trolls eventually won you the day. The alchemist you found soon after sold you some healing potions which helped you survive your way back through another orc attack. The money you made from Ohlo didn't cover the expenses or the sadness over lost friends.

The next day you were healing your wounds at the tavern once more, wondering whether it was all worth it. A kitsune fortune teller appeared at the table. She introduced herself by stopping in front of you and stating:
Blood and violence are writ boldly in your future. Look for friends where you expect enemies and enemies where you expect allies.
She spun you a story of a great and dangerous adventure which you would have to take but which would eventually lead to glorious victories and riches. The story was so good you almost forgave her even though her accomplice picked all your pockets. She was long gone by the time you noticed this.

Suddenly the money you could gain from clearing out the slums seemed important again. Once more you ventured into the slums and to your suprise you found out that the area was almost empty. Should you have given up at that point, some other fortune hunter would have simply come and claimed the rewards!

You took the gold the council gave you and eagerly asked for more work for pay.

You heard the following proclamations

Be it known that the council is interested in acquiring information as to the disposition of various formerly-living entities rumored to be harassing honest citizens in the vicinity of Sunnyside Graveyard. A reward is offered to any person who shall travel to said graveyard and return an eye-witness account.

Be it known that the council, knowing that commerce is the life's blood of New Phaladnea, has decreed that Lynchbury Fort is to be cleared of all unsanctioned inhabitants. A reward is offered to the person or persons who successfully carry out this commission. All interested in applying for said commission shall present themselves to the clerk of the council.

A ratfolk called Zolonsho also suggested that you should come with him to explore an area of the old city called Kuto's well.

Zolonsho's suggestion sounded silly when you could get money just for going to look at a graveyard.

The graveyard had a few groups of flying heads and creeping skeletal arms that you destroyed but then you saw a swarm of shadow rats approaching and decided to run away. The council didn't really believe your story. You got into an argument and were thrown out by a group of guards.

Another drink in a tavern, another night at your house. Waking up to a breakfast with the Bayou warriors.

What next?

While they are sometimes called inns, the local houses of hospitality are really just large spaces where people who don't have their own homes come to sleep. Others choose to pay someone who just happens to have a spare bed and a corner in their house so they're taken in as guests. Yet others have chosen to save money and adopt a part of the recently freed slums quarter.

This was your choice. You knew the place better than anyone, having scoured it of orcs for about a month. You had dibs to choose a spot. It's a wood-brick combination house, the way many houses here are. The city predates the coming of the ratfolk. Who originally built the parts that are made of brick? Nobody knows. But the ratfolk of fifty years ago made repairs and additions with wood.

Since then there have been more additions. The river that flows in the region has become polluted, even poisonous. A large fort has been built to the other end of the city, probably through demonic magics. Yet no one's seen a demon in town territory since the ratfolk returned to Phaladena.

It was a beautiful spring morning. Sun has risen and the air is clear. The Bayou warriors are slowly waking up.

Yolmar waking up continues laying down in bed. Going over his dream for awhile remembering his wife. Holding onto the necklace she gave him he gets out of bed. Rinsing his face in a nearby bucket. He walks down the stairs to a table for a light breakfast while thinking of what he should be doing next.

Sarto stretches his arms above his head while he is still lying on the floor, his fur being warmed by the sunlight that just reached him from the window. He sees Yolmar head down the stairs for breakfast and feels the hunger in his belly. The hunger is always what wakes him up in the morning. Otherwise he'd sleep all day. He gets up and follows Yolmar downstairs.

"Good morning. What's for breakfast today?"

Issachar stumbles into the eating area, rubbing his bleary eyes. Hits sits, placing his mask on the table so he can put it on as soon as he eats. He looks up at Sarto and Yolmar, grinning wickedly, "I was going to ask whose turn it is to cook, but seeing as we are missing two, whichever one is last to get up should get the job, heh?"

Hattie is a gorgeous young woman who insinuated herself into the house with Issachar. She rises from the same bed where he slept and winks at Issachar. Then she puts on a square leather hat that on someone else might look ridiculous but on her it just looks brave.
I was thinking of going out to sell these today. They're setting up a market here in the slums soon. I think there'll be more customers as people start moving in. What do you think Izzy? Would you wear one one of these?
She poses for a moment before sitting next to Issachar.

What, no one started cooking yet? Alright I guess I'll take the hit today.

After watching the rise of the sun he wondered around the city. Enjoying the quite morning air. Seeing a fruit vendor setting up their booth with a small display of Shakshaka's. Reminding himself of their taste and refreshing properties he decides to buy some. Thinking back on his companions who are still sleeping at this time he decides on buying a few.

A fruit shaped similarly to a Peach, with white skin and round shape. The inside of the fruit is red, and it's seeds are many and small throughout the fruit, however they are consumable, and very soft during the chewing. The fruit smell is very soft, and sweet, and inconspicuous if not ripe. The taste itself is very citric, however after a very brief moment the mellow and very sweet taste arrives, the fruit is very juicy, making it so, you feel like you are drinking a very refreshing juice at times.

He bought 20 of them -100sp

Oogway (https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=2374133) walking into the home holds a large bag of Shakshaka's. Smiling faintly at the group at the table he walks and gently sets the bag on the table. "Here have some of Shakshaka's. They are very refreshing and taste sweet. Smelling the faint aroma brewing into the air. He says "Seems like Apex slept in today. Grabbing a few of the fruit he walks into the kitchen setting two on the counter for the cook and walks outside to sit on a nearby bench to enjoy his fruits and the early day atmosphere.

Sarto accepts one of the shakshakas. They always remind him of home, since he used to eat them with his parents before he was sold away to the spinner. He can't afford them often but he is happy to have one when someone else pays.

"Thanks Ooogway. This is nice of you."

He eats slowly, savoring the juices and the soft seeds.

Yolmar silently agreeing kinda lost half in his thoughts until the very calming Oogway draws his attention away from his mood. Grabbing a Shakshaka he inspects the fruit having not seen one before. Taking a bite a bit surprised by the changing of citric to sweetness and the very refreshing fruit he looks inside of it. Seeing the red that contrast to the white skin he is slightly marveled from this fruit.

Taking a few seeds from the fruit he places them into a small vial in his pouch in hopes of maybe planting one someday. This is a very delicious fruit thank you Oogway. after finishing one of the fruit. He grabs another and heads outside to see the Tortle resting on a bench with a very calm aura. Not willing to disturb him he walks back inside and slowly finishes the second fruit while looking through his herbs seeing if he has enough to make some more healing potions. As there recent fights been consuming more then he was able to replenish.

I wish, but unfortunately it's impossible for me to sleep in with this guy around.

Apex gives a nod to the pseudodragon impatiently flittering about the kitchen as he reaches for the fruit on the counter.

Thanks for the shakshakas Oogway

Apex quickly cuts up both fruits into cubes and pops a piece into his mouth. He ambles out to the table with a plate heaped with eggs, one piled with sausage, and a bowl of cubed fruit. He tosses one of the sausages up to Lefty who catches it gratefully and quickly devours it. He sits down at the table and serves himself a plate.

A ratfolk of the slippery subrace approaches Oogway and Yolmar outside. The woman has four hand-axes hanging on her belt and she's got scalemail on.

You've seen her before. It's Zolonsho, an eldritch knight who came in town three weeks ago.

Good morning tortle and human, may Ephara embrace you today.

She has many scars, some of which have obviously been made by life-threatening blows. Her hair is unkempt and you can see a bit of mud on her clothes.

Are you planning on venturing out today? I'm still seeking friends to tackle the Kuto's district.

Iss smiles as Hattie walks in. He never imagined he would have a mate, must less one so appealing. He looks at her hat in response to her question, "Of course I'd wear one. That is a fine hat! Hattie gives Issachar a one-handed hug. Then she skips back to their sleeping area. After a moment of rummaging, she comes back with a slightly taller and wider version of the same hat. It looks to be made of buffalo leather. Orcs love buffalo as a material and Hattie's been asking for Issachar to bring back leather when you can find it.
You can have one then!
If Issachar puts the hat on today, which is an action... He gets a d6 inspiration dice that's usable for 10 minutes after he starts wearing the hat. The dice works similar to the bardic inspiration dice.

Hattie then just sits and listens whilet looking at Issachar for a while.

Zolonsho nods to Yolmar and starts talking
I know about how your group opened the slums area. That's why I was thinking you might be able to handle the next district too. It's called The Well or Kuto's well.

She clears her throat before continuing

I've already led a couple of forays out near the old city wall up near the bend in the river where the graveyards is. Twice I've run into trouble with orcs, dwarves and humans. That's not really that odd except that these ruffians were working together. That, my friends, is unusual. Dwarves and orcs don't typically get along too well. ...

She scratches her head for a moment.
Hey, I know you. You're that guy with the dyes. Are you really the same people who opened the slums? The Bayou Warriors?

...

Anyway, so I figure there must be a leader to these varmints. Maybe somebody's pulling in renegades from various camps for mutual protection or something. I've heard others mention seeing dwarves at Kuto's well so I guess that's as good a place as any to start looking for their leader.

I'm not offering to hire anyone but if you're interested in going at it, it's safer to go together. Share loot and danger equally.

The clack-clack-clack of hoofsteps announced the emergence of the satyr Tam Barl Daar, half-clad in her armour and orange hair streaming chaotically down her shoulders. With a jaw-cracking yawn nearly splitting her delicate features, she thumped down heavily at the table; the satyr had never quite got used to the night noises of the city compared to that of the wilds. With a sound vaguely approximate to a greeting, she reached out to help herself to the fruit.
Rather than sit and eat, she simply abducted the bowl and carried it outside to the conversation.
"No-" she paused to yawn again, and freed up a hand to scratch behind the tiny stump of her missing ear. "No other group interested? Y' said you'd lead other expeditions. What happened to them?"

Oogway simply smiles and gives a slight nod. Glad that people are enjoying the Shakshakas.

As he was sitting outside his eyes closed while gently breathing in the fresh and crisp morning air he hears them asking if they would like to help clear another district. Oogway not very found of violence but still wanting to help. Due to seeing the people in the slums daily. If there is more land then maybe their conditions will improve.

Young Zolonsho when shall we depart? Oogway speaks while opening his eyes. While using his quarterstaff to help him stand up. Offering to help without even mentioning the slightest form of payment.

Seeing that Zolonsho knows of his skills he looks at her. If you want any of your gear dyed let me know. For small pieces like gloves it would cost roughly 5silver pieces. For larger items like clocks 5g pieces. If there are custom designs you want or need larger services that’s more detailed negotiation. Yolmar rattles off a bit. Used to people either asking him for his dyeing services or potion making expertise. Slightly forgetting the original part of the conversation.

Zolonsho seems happy when noticing there's more of you.
I agree, even distribution of all rewards.

When she hears Tam's question she says The others were kind of green in the hero business. They routed at the first volley of arrows. At least they all survived. I've now lost my desire to do babysitting while adventuring.

Hattie hears Sarto's words and comments to those still at the table
I don't think the council is offering a reward for clearing the well district. I heard captain Slingen has pressured the countil to focus on recapturing the Lynchbury fort. Something about safety of shipping.

Meanwhile Zolonsho answers Oogway and Yolmar.
I think it would be prudent to go early in the day. Daylight allows one to see any trickery easier. ... When we get back, I would love to have my shoes dyed red. I hear the orcs believe that red goes faster. I'd love to test that out.

She catches herself rambling.

I know my pocket's aren't feeling particularly light currently, but who knows how long that will last. If the council is not offering a reward we really must talk about whether or not the risk of clearing the well is worth it. Why don't we all step outside and discuss.

Apex quickly stacks the used dishes left behind and sets it on the counter in the kitchen before making his way outside. He approaches the group discussing The Well.

Hello Zolonsho. He nods in her direction, then turns to Oogway and Yolmar.

According to Hattie inside the council is not offering a reward for clearing The Well. Currently I'm still in for helping out, but I just figured we should make sure we're looking at the full picture before we all agree to something.

Yes, there isn't a reward of monetary worth. I'm interested in this issue partially because I came here to help this community and prove myself. I believe there will be loot though, hopefully plenty of it. I don't live from good faith alone either.

I'm also just curious. What's the deal with the well? We live on a small island in the delta of a poisoned river. Why a well? Where does the water come from? If there's real fresh water we can sell the place to a merchant house for an enormous sum. If not, then we find out something else.

Kill all the bad ones.
Hattie says. She waves her hand at Issachar when he's leaving. She mouths without saying
Too-da-loo. while smiling coyly.

When the group starts from their new home, you see a number of people gathered on the main open area of the slums.

There seem to be two demagogues and a crowd that's gathering.

A ratfolk who's wearing some insignia showing they're a member of the Black Fleet is standing on a wooden box. (The Black Fleet are the not so secret militant navy of the ratfolk House of Good Foundations).
The liberation of the district formerly called slums is a sign of what we ratfolk can accomplish! If we keep striving, fighting we can build a strong city. We are surrounded by enemies. Most of the city is full of orcs while the seas are treatened by the sahuagin. But we will show them that we can overcome! We must train ourselves, particularly in the the use of axe and spear, for no matter what the enemies have in store for us, our blades will protect us!

The small crowd is cheering.

About 15 yards to the navyman's left there's another ratfolk standing on another box. This one has white face paint on the left side of their face and their robe too is vertically divided into the colours of grey and white. The clothing suggests they are a cleric of Kruphix, the god of Horizons and also the Moon.
It's true that we are beset by challengers. The sahuagin have fought us time and again and while we are here in a town that reminds us of the greenskinned horrors, we must not forget the enemies at sea! Be devout in your actions and praise the Moon! It is the power of our faith and the magics that the moon grant us that will save us! Remember that we have been victorious against the sahuagin as well as the orcs.

Near the back of the cheering crowd a taller individual that looks kind of like this
https://images4.sw-cdn.net/product/picture/710x528_27658291_7359158_1577738223.jpg
is calmly listening to the speakers. It looks like she's writing down notes.

As you walk, Zolonsho comments on the speakers
Victories against the sahuagin...my furry butt. If the sahuagin had wanted to destroy Home Island they could have. They surrendered in the war but who knows what their motivation was? We were completely overmatched I tell you. I was actually on one of the ships they sunk. Barely managed to swim ashore. Wasn't a thing we could do when they ripped our ship's hull apart with spells. Feh. These people. But it's the atmospher here. The pressure everyone is facing is enormous. There was another supply ship that was captured by orcish coast pirates. Everybody's on the edge.

She pauses to ask about your coming mission
Do you guys want to go through the northern or the southern path into the Kuto's district? There's two entrances.

When you enter the Kuto's well district you quickly find out that the map's more descriptive than exact. The closest to an actual scale that the map has would be 1 square 30' but the doors and other fixtures obviously don't take this much space. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcScBPve8QtpCp3mdTUi5Jthd38q3eUE4 PfgKw&usqp=CAU

The open space in the southeast section of Kuto's well looks like an area that once was a building. There's still some intact walls at the very southeast-most corner. No roof though.

You hear some noise of people both from the west and the north.

Yolmar draws his greatsword calmly and walks forward into the well. His hide and fur clothing probably making him seem like a vagabond. Looks around for any signs of orc presence. Looking back towards the group he walks northward I’ll be back shortly.

He is going to the northern part to look for orcs and try to convince them to evacuate the city. Probably won’t work but he is going to try.

He also casts guidance on himself just in case.

While Yolmar walks up north he sees orc tribal wall scratching everywhere. A lot of the older ones have been repeatedly scratched over.

Yolmar knows the orcish tribes consist of several subraces. Orogs are the most common but bugbears are quite common too. There's also the posh'uns who are thought dishonorable and sneaky by most other orcs. There's squiggaroos who're considered problematic in how crazy they are. Also there's the pariah tribe who's pariah state is mostly just a matter of ancient history. They are very good at working metal and more clever than the average orc. Finally there's plenty of orcs with demonic bloodlines. The orcs don't call them tieflings or cambions though. The name they use is tanarukk or tanarruk.

As usual, most of the graffitti Yolmar sees, seems to suggest orog dominance. Besides the scratches on the walls, Yolmar has no trouble hearing a bunch of orcs in the very first house north of the larger empty space.

When Yolmar comes nearer to the building an orc pokes their head out of the doorway. He takes a look and then yells in orcish to others inside.
Hey, it's that human with the dyes! Anyone want more red in their clothes?

Another orc comes to the doorway. She's carrying a maul.
I heard the dye guy was a member of the Bayou warriors. Are you with them ones that attacked the slums?

Looking at the group of orcs speaks I was part of the attack on the slums yes. I’ve come to warn you that the city is planning on clearing out the water district today. I urge you to leave or not fight back. I don’t want any orckin killed by these people anymore. If you want to have a little fight before you go we can band up on the dwarves and have a little fun. But afterwards I think you guys should head up north and rejoin the tribes there. These people aren’t to friendly with greenskins anymore. But I’m trying to change that. Sarto can hear more dwarf voices behind the walls. The sentry is standing on a wooden platform that allows him to look over a wall of a ruined building.

The guard seems wary as Sarto approaches but not necessarily hostile. When he hears Sarto's introduction, he tries to say something but ends up breathing in some of his own saliva. He ends up coughing. After a few seconds he clears his throat and answers
Thanks for the warning, cat. If you want a drink, go to the Pit. It's the only place I know that serves cats and rats.

Six dwarves come out of the western ruins through a broken doorway. They're armed and seemingly ready to fight. They leave to the north.

The rest of the Bayou warriors cross the open area. The orc sentinel on your right looks curiously at your movements. Some of you notice that there's a group of armed orcs hiding behind the sentry.
Hey. Who are you people!
Yells the sentry. You see at least three crossbows leveled at you.

Hello, I'm Yolmar the dye merchant and these are my assistants!
Yolmar yells in orcish.
We're going to help the dwarves ... with their clothing!

The orcs discuss things in confusion and don't do anything while you simply move past.

In the northwestern section there's one intact house. The dwarves move out of it, seemingly having found it empty.

You walk behind them, ready to choose your actions appropriately. The dwarves find the previous group of young orcs at the very northwesternmost part of the district. An argument develops and it seems likely to develop into a fight.

The dwarves are standing on the street while the orcs are behind a doorway in what remains of a house. The walls surrounding the area are partially crumbled. Should you wish, you could climb over the wall to get behind the orcs, or maybe climb on top of the roof of the house nearby to use ranged weapons. It looks like the fight will develop in the doorway so only a few individuals will be able to participate at a time.

Meanwhile Zolonsho shrugs. He moves to a position on the roof where he's close to the orcs as can, but he doesn't jump down. Then he launches a cone of burning hads on the gathered young orcs. He catches five of the orcs, half of which manage to partially dodge the flames.
After the spell he yells.
Dwarves, listen, the orcs are about to attack your rear. We stand by you!

Tam casts mold earth to create a line in the dirt about 10' in front of Issachar.

Sarto again waits for the right opportunity. Once he sees an orc separate slightly for his companions, he quickly darts in, preferably from a different spot in order to confuse the orcs. He stabs the nearest orc with his rapier and then retreats back to the safety of his hiding spot.

Apex's eyes darken as he focuses on the orc nearest the edge of the roof and furthest from Apex. He focuses hard on the orc's ability to stay upright.
Lefty flies behind the orc Apex was focusing on and squawks loudly in an attempt to distract him. Apex fires an Eldritch Blast in the orc's direction while distracted in an attempt to push them off the roof.

Lefty takes the help action
Apex cast hex on the orc as a bonus action. He has disadvantage on all Dex Saves
To hit 1: [roll0]
To hit 2: [roll1]
EB Damage: [roll2] force damage
Hex damage: [roll3] necrotic damage
On a hit, Apex's repelling blast invocation will push the orc 10 feet, hopefully off of this roof.

Apex blasts one of the orcs. The orc was previously burned by the fire and now he dies of the blast before he falls down from the roof.

Oogway casts toll the dead on one of the orcs on the roof. The orc fails to resist and seems to be bloodied by the spell in combinatin with his previous burn scars.

The second group of orcs on the street doesn't attack immediately.
One of them tugs the orc that's most in front. They speak in orcish.
Come, let's go fetch the others. I don't want to fight to save some dwarves.
Sure. Let's go. I like fighting but I like winning fights more. Some of those people seem pretty tough. Did you see that guy fire an orc from the roof?
The orcs start retreating.

Sarto attacks another orc who was previously damaged by the burn spell and cuts them down. This time the orcs are a little more aware and notice him withdrawing.

The dwarves kill another orc at the doorway. The young orcs are starting to seem kind of panicked but they're surrounded, no place to retreat. The dwarves seem grim and non-conversational. They're still focusing on killing orcs.

Yolmar yells
Did you not hear what I told you? Get away from the city! Surrender now and we'll let the rest of you live!

The two orcs who are still on the roof react by dropping their weapons.
We listen to you Dyeguy. We don't want to die yet.

Yolmar kicks the orcs' weapons away.

The yard has four orcs who are more or less surrounded. The other group of orcs is about 30' from Issachar, Tam and Oogway, slowly moving back south while looking behind at your group.

23 Issachar
21 Zolonsho
20 Tam Barl
18 Young orcs (6, 2 of whom have surrendered. )

Issachar follows the group moving away, slowly. If it becomes clear they are leaving, he will head back to help clean up the mess at the door.

Sarto looks in the room, looking for an opportunity, hopefully able to strike from another entrance in order to confuse the orcs. If he sees an opening, he rushes in, strikes and flees again.

Issachar follows the orc patrol enough to see them go to the well and start climbing down into it.

Meanwhile Zolonsho jumps down from the roof to slay another orc.
At this point the three orcs on the yard throw their weapons to the ground and plead for mercy.

The dwarves check their fallen and give one of them a healing point, reviving the dying dwarf. They then start tying the orc prisoners up.

The orcs complain loudly of the fight not being fair, of them still being too drunk or having a hangover after their last night in the pit, of sun hitting their eyes during the fight. They have plenty of explanations why the fight was not a 'real loss'.

One of the dwarves introduces themselves in 'common' as
Leaky Halfhammer, pleased to meet you. Thank you for the help.

Apex climbs down from the roof he is standing on and approaches the dwarf.

Pleased to meet you as well Leaky, my name is Apex and no need to thank us. Our friend here attempted to get the orcs to leave peacefully, but it looks like they were too excited for a fight. At that point, they lost their chance.

Lefty, seeing the hostilities cease comes back and begins to flutter near Apex.

Leaky nods several times.
Yeah, orcs are quarrelsome, smelly creatures. We've just got to deal with it really. This place is full of them. Now we just need to deal with the last five. We really don't want the orcs we're working with to hear about this fight. Do you want to kill half of these punks? I call the third one is ours on behalf of our dead friend.

You see one of the dwarves cut off a finger from one of the tied down orcs.

Yolmar whispers to Sarto
I've been telling everyone, dwarves are worse than orcs.

Sarto strolls out from his hiding place, blood still dripping form his rapier. He looks at the orcs briefly but takes little interest in them.

"No, the prisoners are all yours. Do what you want to them. How many more of you are there? We saw at least a half dozen more orcs climb down the well. I'm sure they'll be back. We should hunt them down fist."

Leaky answers
The well? Uh. Those orcs and us were hired to watch the entrance of that well. We didn't really know we'd be working with orcs but a deal's a deal. Should have guessed though. Orcs are really everywhere these days. Didn't use to be like this even a couple of hundred years ago.

Zolonsho asks
Who hired you?

Leaky shrugs
The gal wants to be known as "The Cowl". She's a fishlady of some sort. She's actively hiring. If you guys were to joing the group we could persuade her to ditch those orcs I think.

While Leaky is talking the dwarves keep torturing the prisoners.

Oogway says
Hatred leads to the dark alignments.

Sarto listens to the dwarves, trying to ignore the screams from the tortured orcs. He feels a little guilty for his role in getting the orcs tortured.

"We would love to meet this 'Cowl.' We could use steady work. Do you mind if I finish these orcs?"

As long as the dwarves don't stop him, he walks over and slits the throats of the orcs, both to keep them from talking and to mercifully put them out of their misery. Once that is done, he returns to the dwarves.

"Before we run off to apply for the job, we should take care of the other orcs before they come back. They were talking of killing all of you dwarves. We'd be happy to help if you'd like our assistance."

The dwarves frown when Sarto kills the prisoners

One of the dwarves says
They learn nothing from just dying.
Another says
Anyone watching will think us weak if just give them easy death.
They don't stop Sarto's actions though.

When Sarto continues talking Leaky nods a lot and listens intently. Then he and the other dwarves have a discussion.

Leaky then turns to Sarto
We'd like to work with you but the Cowl bought our loyalty. The orcs too are in Cowl's pay and attacking them would make us traitors. This is a major issue for us... so...

I propose a contract between us. We'll create a moral quandary which will force us to break the previous contract. It's a simple custom. I give you a gold piece to buy your help. You give me a goldpiece to buy our help. Then we will have to help you in a fight against the orcs. Whatever we do, one contract is broken. Since it can't be helped it's ok.
