View Full Version : Magic item cost

So I was thinking it would be kind of neat to have a sword that, when swung (and concentrated on correctly) would shoot a fireball or ray or something neat. But looking at the magic item creation costs, it doesn't have anything like that.
I was thinking that I should treat it like a wand for that purpose, and add in magic weapon things (has to be masterwork, or a +1 first or something).
So maybe it would look like:
Weapon price, +300 (MW) , +2000 (if +1 is required), +50xMats, +50x5 XP, +1/2 x 375 x CL x SL (this is to make obviously, so take out the 1/2 for normal purchase)
Does this look correct?
Also, is there any way to recharge a magic item, through sacrificing spell levels (trade a level 3 spell for a charge of a level 3 spell) or anything like that?

Thanks in advance.

I'll call it the +1 Longsword of Fireballs

+1 Longsword base price (2,315) + Fireball Use Activated (5 [caster level] x 3 [spell level] x 2000) = 32,315 gp.

It can cast Fireball at will, as a 5th level caster.

EDIT: Cost to create is 16,157 gp, 5 sp, 1,292 XP.

Make sure you have fire immunity, since 'use activated' with a sword is swinging it. And you'd be at the epicenter of that fireball. :P

HAH! I was about to ask you where you go that when I looked on the table on the right page :smalleek: . Oh well.

So any news from anyone on recharging an item with charges?

AFAIK, there are no recharging rules.

Not necessarily - It's taking a standard action to use it. If a Player really wanted to torch himself when using it, I'd let him. If he had fire immunity and wanted to cheese out and do it, I wouldn't.
