But yeah, it seems like a lot of the greats from the '05/06 are disappearing...As are a lot of the early '07eners. There also seems to be a lack of talent to fill that void, but that could just be me being waaay out of touch with the avatar makers these days.

Aw, they do their best. When I joined there were about five or six avatarists active, Sampi, Djinn, Jannex, Cap'n Van Der Decken, Cult of the Raven and myself. It was a veritable scrum to accept requests and the standard C'est Magnifiqué.

Aaaah, the glory days of avatar making.

As far as I know, me, CSK, The_Chilli_God, and thecrimsommage. And I think Mr Saturn's still hanging around.

Well I'm sorry that we don't live up to the high standards set by the forerunners, but it's something that the forums will just have to deal with.

Dr. Bath

I was kidding, it was fun mainly because there were enough interested artists and good requests that pretty much every request that wasn't rude was taken up. Like I said, the avatarists change, but there always seems to be at least a few people making amazing stuff in the requests thread, for example, not that long ago there was only Kyace making avatars regularly and only occasionally someone else joined in.

I don't know the thread since I don't really know the avatarists (except Mr Saturn), I wasn't insinuating that any of you were doing anthing less than a stellar job.

Comon, using a program like inkscape or sodipodi can really give you an edge in your avataring game. They will give you nice, straight, non-pixel-y lines. And it helps a bunch on making shapes and effects. One of the best things is layering and being able to copy body parts or weapons that turned out well and rearranging them into a new avatar. (with new additions of course) I don't mean you can't have a decent avatar on paint, just look at simius right above you. :smallamused:

But i can see some improvement going on since your first and last. Main things are:

1. Rectangular bodies. (Ovals look terrible!)
2. More circular heads. (But they are not yet perfect circles...paint does allow those. Just press shift like you would to make a straight line.)

1. But the feet should be longer like the first avatars you made.

2. You could definately improve on the eyes. They play a huge part in making an avatar look OotS-y. Look at the other people's drawings, nice ovals of different sizes just a bit higher than the center of the head. Eyes look better on a stick-figure when they are closer together, and when they are really close, they kind of look cute.

3. Your hands need to be a bit bigger. You unless your avatars all have striveled hands. :smalleek:

Try working on those parts and i hope to see some improvement. Oh and feel free to pm me and ill try my best to answer any questions you got.

Those are pretty good, especially since you've only been at it less than a week. One piece of advice, line consistency. Your line thicknesses are all over the place. Stick to one thicknesses on the outlines, then do detailed things with slightly thinner lines. Take the last avatar you posted as an example. I would make the line thicknesses of his face a little less, and use it for everything. Legs, arms, hair, jacket, everything. Things like the sword or belt, I'd keep pretty much how the are though, maybe make the sword a little thicker.
