I don't know exactly why but I swear that I've seen an item called "blood onyx" somewhere in a book but for the life of me cant find the thing...

I seem to remember it being a special material component that could be used for animate dead in place of onyx and what was special about it was that it wasn't consumed in the casting and substituted maybe 100-500 gp worth of onyx for the purpose of animated HD (for clarification I'm referring to the 25gp worth of onyx per HD of the undead to be animated)

maybe I'm remembering the name wrong or maybe I'm just crazy but any help would be much appreciated.

UA has Blood Onyx as metamagic component (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/metamagicComponents.htm), making Animate Dead silent for 570gp

There is an item called bloodied onyx in Unearthed Arcana: Necromancy - Beyond the Grave. It's a wondrous item you can use in conjuction with animate dead to grant a small amount of regeneration. It's a third party book but the UA series was somewhat popular.

Tainted Sorcerer gets "Blood Substitution", which allows them to take damage rather than expend expensive components.

The onyx from Animate Dead and the diamonds from True Resurrection are my favorite components to ignore.

EDIT: pathfinder has some spell (blanking on the name) that lets you create components out of blood.

Blood Money. (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/b/blood-money/) Hilariously cheesable.
