Umbral Sight and summon fey (tricksey)

Is it possible to have the tricksey fey drop darkness on myself during my action to benefit from advantage in darkness (with gloom stalker's lvl 3 ability umbral Sight). Or would I have to command it to hold it's action to drop darkness on me at the beginning of my next turn?

No. The fey doesn't act on your turn, and can't Ready a bonus action (which is what the Fey Step requires) either (https://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/10/05/can-you-ready-a-bonus-action/). It can use it during its turn, though, and the darkness lasts until the end of its next turn, which means it's still there when your turn comes up.
