Anyone ever do anything like this?
I have a player thats thinking of a Arcanist/Malconvoker but the game is high psionics so...thoughts?
Its really more about being about to bind creatures, etc vs the specific classes.

Sounds like the Constructor: http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625b
Ectopic Adept is also relevant but it's...problematic.

True the Constructor could summon a construct...but it has nothing like a summons/gate ability and has nothing to do with binding devil's and the like... :(

if you dont mind waiting until epic levels magic of incarnum has a way of getting gate on any character.

Well my first thought is a spells to power Erudite gaining Summon Monster 3 to qualify for Malconvoker and just allowing the spellcasting progression to add manifester levels.

A thrallherd binds creatures' minds. Maybe a cerebromancer who calls demons and, rather than binding them with bribes and threats, just jind-controls them?

Not 3.5 Psionics, but Pathfinder has a wizard archetype called Psychic Mage which is a Wizard / Dreamscarred Press* Psion hybrid. (DSP is the group who adapted 3.5 XPH to Pathfinder)

It would be easy to backport. And with this variant wizard you can also do Malconvoker while 90% of your stuff being psionic.

Well, Bend Reality and Reality Revision are would be able to duplicate lower-level summonings and callings
Planar Embrace (Complete Psionic) can give you Half-Fiend template, which may allow to use Summon Monster IX 1/day
Planar Champion (Complete Psionic) can bring in a Cerebrilith
Magic of Eberron have Project Quori Spirit
Also, Subverted Psion (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20051125a)
