I'm looking on maybe running a shifter wild hunt ranger.
Flavor wise i would like to use smell and hearing as a shifter is half beast so to say. But he doesn't stand out race wise for abilities in this field.
There is Keen senses, for instances from a wolf:
Keen Hearing and Smell.
The wolf has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
But that seems to be a bit OP for my DM.
There is indeed Canny. It's a ranger's skill.

Choose one of your skill proficiencies. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses the chosen skill.
You can also speak, read, and write two additional languages of your choice.
What other ways could there be to flavor a shifter using his animal side by dm's fiat that wouldn't be too overpowering?
