The pit is 15 ft long, with a wall of force right on this edge(where most of the party is). Currently "Ellas Aramond" is on the other side.

Please kentma, just call me Ellas. I've found its easier on the tongue.

Kentma, please check my original post about the pit. It specifies "only if the pit is 10' or less across. So, I can ignore the jump?

Krimm_Blackleaf
2007-12-19, 03:53 PM
Wait, so I'm not across? Or did I miss something and this is another pit with another wall? Sorry if I seem somewhat inattentive, I've been distracted by this and that.

Alright people seem confused the pit is 15ft long everyone is on the side leading into the room with the chest, with the exception of Ellas, and the bear did not jump.

Are there any questions?

Toliudar

Yup. What does Ursayk see if she carefully peers down the pit?

Thanks for the clarification.

Rorrik sighs as he scours his mind of all his arcane knowledge of the spells he has at his disposal and realizes there's only one course of action he's capable of.
"If I may do the honors, I can get rid of this one, too."

Yup. What does Ursayk see if she carefully peers down the pit?

Thanks for the clarification.

It is very deep and very dark...

Rorrik sighs as he scours his mind of all his arcane knowledge of the spells he has at his disposal and realizes there's only one course of action he's capable of.

I assume you use dissintigrate...

Toliudar
2007-12-20, 10:26 AM
That may not be necessary.

Experimentally, Ursayk picks up a few pebbles. She tosses them into the pit with decreasing force - trying to determine how far down the Wall of Force goes by watching where/if the pebbles bounce back. As a bonus, she's trying to determine roughly how deep the pit is by the delay before there is any sound of landing.

Krimm_Blackleaf
2007-12-20, 06:05 PM
Yeah, not using disintegrate yet. I have only so many 6th level spells.

You don't hear the pebble hit the bottom...

Krimm_Blackleaf
2007-12-20, 09:56 PM
Rorrik scratches his chin as he floats. "Perhaps I could see the bottom for myself." He then proceeds to float down slowly and watch out for what lies at the bottom, if anything.

How long/far are you going to float down? Though it does not matter you don't find the bottom.

[I think the question was also "how far down the shaft does the wall of force extend"]

Ursayk examines the wall of the passage - is it worked stone, masonry with plaster, or featureless rock?

[I think the question was also "how far down the shaft does the wall of force extend"]

You don't find the edge of the wall of force...
It just keeps going, and going, and going...

Ursayk examines the wall of the passage - is it worked stone, masonry with plaster, or featureless rock

It is solid rock that has been worked so smoothe it is almost imposible to grip...

Ursayk

Calling softly down to Rorrik, Ursayk says: If you'd rather save your spell, there's a chance we'll be able to dig around the pit instead.

Rorrik looks up. "Sounds like a plan, then!" and floats back up to the rest of the party.

Svargithurik

"It does. Past time we started doing something they won't expect. Now, stand back." Moving his head next to the wall, the drake inhales with a sound like a bellows, then breathes a wave of flame onto the stone. A strong smell of brimstone fills the air as Svarg inspects the wall; then he rears up, beating his wings rapidly, and begins tearing great chunks out of the stone with his claws.

Breath weapon damage: [roll0]. Half that is fire damage, which is halved again for attacking an object, but the other half is profane damage.

The claws should hit pretty much automatically even with full Power Attack, dealing [roll1], [roll2], and then rend damage: [roll3]. All attacks bypass hardness as if they were adamantine, thanks to the ring.

Edit- So that's 8 fire damage, subject to hardness, 16 profane damage, and a total of 101 from the attacks.

kentma57
2007-12-21, 10:29 PM
hmm, I had not thought of that...

You claw/flame 5ft into the wall???

The_Snark
2007-12-21, 10:30 PM
Yep. Obviously, if something strange happens, like acid pouring out of the walls, Svarg will stop.

Toliudar
2007-12-21, 10:31 PM
Backing up hastily, Ursayk waits for the smoke to clear before she examines the results of Svarg's excavations.

Er. Quite. I actually meant "I could turn into an umber hulk" or something like that. But this was useful.

Krimm_Blackleaf
2007-12-21, 10:49 PM
Rorrik smirks as he rests his sword on his shoulder and watches Svarg make himself out to be a drill.

The_Snark

Svargithurik

"If it will go faster, be my guest." The drake is bracing himself against the ceiling and floor with wings and tail as he attempts to gouge chunks out of the wall, but he makes way for one of the others if they have something to try.

At this rate, Svarg can probably remove a 5-ft chunk of stone in just under a minute, meaning it'll take about 4 and a half minutes to carve our own little pathway through the wall to the other side. That's based on the assumption that it's normal stone, of course, which may not be the case...

Can Ursayk wild shape into abberations, then?

Krimm_Blackleaf
2007-12-22, 02:30 AM
"Sorry, I doubt I could go further without expending spell slots... unless of course I used my sword."

Would he really go that far? I thought we were just getting under the wall of force.

The_Snark
2007-12-24, 06:06 PM
He'd dig out 5 5-ft cubes, or about 25 feet, into the wall past the Wall of Force, assuming humanoid form when necesary to fit into the space he's carving out of the wall. That ought to be enough to get past the pit.

Krimm_Blackleaf

Rorrik flies through the tunnel once it's completed and stands firm on the ground of the other side.

Toliudar
2007-12-25, 09:06 AM
Ursayk

Once the group is safely assembled on the far side of the pit, Ursayk looks at the others.

Well, it's clear that there were others here before us, and it seems unlikely that it was just Dead Guy slumped over the chest. Especially since it wasn't a fireball that killed him, or he'd have been all charred. We might as well keep looking for an alternate passage. Deneb? What do you think?

Ellas Aramond
2007-12-27, 07:20 PM
I think the big question is: Why would someone come down here in the first place? Deneb says as he strokes his clean-shaven chin as though one would a beard. Down to some maze underneath a city?

Of course, that leads to the next question. Why are WE down here? I have yet to be told that piece of information.

As he speaks his next words, his body turns into mist, allowing him to move along the walls and feel for any cracks that might define a secret door. Anyway, I think its time for a different strategy.

Using my Gaseous Form spell-like ability.

Also Search: [roll0]

Ursayk

The dwarf woman shrugs.

Any reason NOT to retrace our steps again, back to the entrance, double-checking the surfaces along the way? I figure that if we don't find anything, we'll have done everything that elf asked us to do, and can reasonably claim our reward. Basically, all we have is some disembodied voice who wants to play silly buggers and throw fireballs. That's something the elf may want to know about, but otherwise...

Krimm_Blackleaf
2008-01-01, 06:46 PM
"Couldn't hurt to check back... If we don't find a thing we'll just make a door of our own." Rorrik smirks at Svarg, the flame of his blade and surrounding him crackling softly.

Ursayk

As they confront a hallway that seems freshly armed to greet them, Ursayk pauses to extract a solid-looking but not particuarly elegant green circlet from her pack, and places it on her head. Uttering a few dark, grunting syllables, Ursayk makes a few swift passes with her hands. She and the bear seem to shimmer, but nothing else happens.

Her Foresight spell prompts her to glance over at the tablet.

Hey, Rorrik! That tablet doing anything different? I've got this hunch...

Krimm_Blackleaf

Rorrik promptly takes the tablet from his pack and looks at it.

So, we have somebody watching us, eh? The wind-fused assassin says loudly as he returns to solid form, glancing around the tunnel. Of course the pit trap was too easy, never underestimate the power of the wind. But what's all this about?

Ursayk

Suppressing a deep desire to simply toss the tome into the seemingly bottomless pit, Ursayk gestures to Deneb.

Well, Windy. It looks like something has just magically reset THIS trap too. Any chance you can take another shot at disarming it?

Ellas Aramond
2008-01-06, 06:33 PM
Lets see what I can do. Deneb says as he walks into the middle of the trap room and summons another force javelin, wary of any of his footsteps that might set off the trap. The launches it at the ceiling, then shadow blinks back to the party.

He summons and throws another force javelin at the ceiling, then Uses his shadow blink maneuver to teleport back to the party. He immediately shadow blinks back to the party should any of his actions set off the trap.

Svargithurik

Svarg mutters a potent curse in Abyssal on the tablet and its creators. Of course, he has no magical power, and a thousand screaming demons completely fail to appear and drag the stone object into the Wells of Darkness for all eternity. "Step aside, then. We'll see whether the builders of this place cut corners on their traps." He assumes the smaller, semi-humanoid form of the ring given him, and moves forward, wings flapping slowly to keep him off the floor. Trying to remember where the last blade was in the corridor, he cautiously proceeds, long tail poised to lash out and wrench the blades from whatever mechanism holds them in the wall.

Svarg will fly forward to the place the trap starts and past; if the trigger requires contact with the floor, it won't be set off. Readied action to stop and smash the first blade that comes out, with full Power Attack: [roll0], damage [roll1], with damage overcoming any hardness less than adamantine. His AC in this form is 39, or 41 against traps.

Essentially, since we can't find or disarm them, he's triggering it and hoping to smash the blade before it damages him.

kentma57
2008-01-08, 07:15 AM

Spoiler to Krimm_Blackleaf ONLY
Take -6 to all ability scores, -4 penalty on attack rolls, saves, ability checks, and skill checks, and each turn, have a a 50% chance to act normally; otherwise, you takes no actions.

Deneb sees the sheer number of blades that had flown out of the wall, and gawks. He had seen plenty of deadly traps in his time, but this was just overkill.

Ursayk

The dwarf is appalled at the sheer carnage in front of her. She knew that Rorrik was fast - to see him weave in and out of so many blades was both inspiring - and awful.

Not wishing to expose herself to anything like that risk, Ursayk summons a hippogriff. She instructs it to go pick up the dragon-man and carry him through forward.

Casting Summon Nature's Ally 2. With Augment Summoning, the hippogriff has a strength of 22, which should be more than enough to carry Rorrik.

Svargithurik

With a guttural snarl, Svarg lashes out at the nearest blade, snapping it in two. "You idiot!" He starts advancing forward slowly, smashing each blade as he comes to it. "What possessed you to rush in there like that? Next time I'll grab you by the tail if you try to pull a stunt like that! If you're dead, I'll... kill you myself!" The drake's fury seems to stem mostly from worry, rather than actual anger.

If the blades retract, Svarg will stop, but if not he continues and destroys them on the way to Rorrik. This trap isn't resetting if he can help it...

Ursayk

Please note that the hippogriff carried Rorrik through to the FAR side of the passage, not back to our side.

Once it becomes clear that Rorrik and the hippogriff have not set off any more blades, Ursayk and the bear lope down, squeezing past Svarg's slightly more straightforward removal of the trap.

Good idea. If it's completely smashed, it can't just reset again.

Examining Rorrik, she is relieved to see that he is distressed but still alive. She reaches forward to touch him, she releases his own bodies phenomenal ability to heal itself.

Krimm, that's all pretty much fluff. She's casting Heal on Rorrik. Kentma, my understanding is that that will cure the damage, the ability score damage, the nausea, and the blinding. I guess we'll need a ruling for you about the more unusual effects (unnamed penalties to saves, attacks, 50% inability to act).

Glancing up, Ursayk points to the hippogriff, instructing it to stand guard at the next corner of the tunnel to come.

She leans forward to whisper to the bear, and in a flash, both of them have transformed into creatures that seem to combine the worst attributes of a slug and an umber hulk - Delvers. They begin eating into the wall that the blades have flown out from, intent on wrecking the entire area behind.

Both are changing into Delver, remaining side by side. Basically, their goal is to eat into the passage beyond where the blades are, then (with Ursayk taking the lead), dissolve the stone and metal beyond to a depth of 10'. More, if the machinery/whatever beyond is bigger. They will stop if anything damages either of them as they work, but since they're not actually entering the trapped section of the corridor, Ursayk is hoping not to have to deal with that.

Each round, each of them can do two touch attacks that each deal 8d10 acid damage to stone, or 4d8 damage to metal, plus 2d6 additional damage for the next two rounds.

Kentma, you'll have to let me know how/if you want this rolled for. Basically, they're

Noting the retracting blades, Svarg quickly savages the remaining blades before him.

How many of the traps can Svarg destroy before they all retract? He can take out two blades a round without problems, meaning that if it's been a minute and a half he could have already taken out all of them. In the time before they all retract, he can probably get another six or so. Once the last sets retract, he'll get himself out of there.

Svarg will smash them until all the blades are either a) smashed or b) retracted into the wall. I'll assume that happens, since it's not significant until we decide to come back this way.

Svargithurik

"Not at all," he replies to Ursayk pleasantly as he carves through the last of the blades as it tries to retract. "As much as I'd enjoy making sure this never worked again, perhaps we should be moving out? It will take time, and we can always take care of the mechanisms when we come back here, if indeed we do at all."

"Assuming, of course, that you can still walk." The last is directed at Rorrik.

Fascinating.

The two delvers seem to put their heads together a moment, and both change into long, coiled purple worms. They face the side OPPOSITE from where the blades came out, ten feet beyond the last of the blades, and start burrowing into the rock.

Knowledge Nature [roll0] to try to determine how this rock has been treated.

Both are changing into Purple Worms. Before starting their burrowing, they will both briefly check in with their surroundings using Tremorsense, to see if there's anything moving around around the corner.

With a 20' burrow speed, they are trying to eat 40' into the stone.

Svarg watches the immense worms attempt to burrow into the wall with increasing suspicion, head swiveling to glare suspiciously at the tablet as Ursayk returns to her natural form. "Or somebody's playing games. That thing is watching us, you know. Hells-damned sorcery!" He digs a claw into the wall, or tries to, to see if the wall has somehow changed since he burrowed through it last.

Rorrik flies toward the dragon with a taste for blood in his eyes. To sink his blade into what may have been his very kin in another life, but surely any beast found in the bottom of a dungeon such as this can't simply be trusted.
"You've met the spawn of the red dragon Kannu'Xuat! I am Rorrik, and you shall feel my blade!"
Rorrik swings his curved blade at the dragon four times, attempting to hit the creature with the perfect point in the blade for maximized damage as well as a high tension of his muscles to strike deep.
First using a swift action to move into the Punishing Stance, adding 1d6 damage to each attack, but with a -2 to AC. Then using a full attack action using a power attack, -3 to my attack rolls and +6 to damage.

The_Snark

It's mostly right—the dragon's secondary claw and wing attacks should be getting only half the Strength bonus on damage, which is usual on secondary attacks. The tail, however, is special, and gets one and a half times the Strength bonus. New damage total should be 121, assuming that all the dragon's damage bonus was from Strength.

Maybe that helps.

Svargithurik

Svargithurik bellows a challenge, and smoking red and black flames billow upwards from his mouth at the much larger dragon. The red might not mind most heat, but these were the flames of the Abyss.

Taking to the air, Svarg lashes out with tail and long neck at the same time, barbs and fangs catching cruelly at the dragon's hard scales, and his two claws slash at the dragon as well, digging into it.

Note- Svarg is currently Large-sized, and nonhumanoid.

First, Svarg rages, bringing his Str to 44, his Con to 35, and his AC to 37.

Quickened breath weapon, aimed upwards so as not to hit companions: [roll0] damage, half of which is fire (and thus ignored) and half of which is unholy. Reflex DC 27 halves the damage again.

Svarg moves up and towards the dragon 5 feet, and full attacks, using Power Attack at -2/+2 (plus another 2 from Armbands of Might).

Sting- [roll1], damage [roll2]; DC 29 Fortitude save or take 2d6 Con damage from poison.

Bite- [roll3], damage [roll4]

Claw 1- [roll5], damage [roll6]

Claw 2- [roll7], damage [roll8]

Clicking forward on the stone floor, he aims one extra-long finger at the dragon and sends a pulsing, blood-red ray straight into the creature's chest, followed up by a glowing ball of force energy.
