I am going to read this.:smallamused:

Nothing more to say until actual first page arives, but everything looks great and positive.

Page one posted. Now you have something that actually indicates the comic's quality.

V that's a good suggestion. In comic one, however, a lot of the background behind it is dark gray, so the white helps visibility.

The plot is looking cool so far. If I could make a suggestion, could the narration text not have a white background? I think that would help the effect. Still, it's a good comic.

Comic 2 is up. From now on, the comic will (hopefully) update twice a week because I had the comics up to here outlined before I started. I will write the future ones from scratch and have not yet drawn every character for them, so they'll take longer.

And yoshi, I took your advice in page two's last panel. Is that better?

yoshi927

I liked it better, but that's to be expected. Cool, though. I wonder who that black-cloaked guy is. Of course, I'm supposed to.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-10, 10:39 PM
Here's what I said regarding the cloaked figure on the jleuven.net forums:
He's the main villain . . . but he is not the main villain. This will eventually make sense.

EDIT: I've posted three character portraits. Any comments?

I like them. Although the style is a bit odd, that will improve. Also, tiny bit of advice, after 1 month you can't change the thread title anymore, so you might want to remove the update name by then.

I like it. It is very mysterious.

What exactly do you mean by "odd?" Any advice is welcome.

And I knew about the 1 month rule, but thanks for the reminder.

Alright, here is my advice:

First make the feet bigger and make the ends round. Also, I think it would look better if you would make the bodies shorter. I think it would look better that way, also make sure all the lines are equally thick. It looks a bit strange on Abiel. Also, I love his hair.

I've posted the last two main characters. Part one begins tomorrow.

Page three is up. This is the closest to fourth-wall breaking I intend to get.

Also, I'd appreciate it if anyone who likes the comic adds the linking banner I posted to their sig. Thanks.

Nice with the names. Hehe, "Norm Al inn".

Well, I would, but it takes up too much space. I'm just going to provide a text link.

Ichneumon
2007-11-15, 12:39 AM
I like the banner, but it's to big to really sig it. Provide one smaller and I will certainly put it in my signature.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-15, 05:44 PM
I posted the reworked banner.

Also, I posted the first comic from the original version of Generica. This is not the same as comic #1, but an earlier comic which I removed completely.

Hey, do you have an update schedule? Just asking.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-18, 10:33 PM
Not really; the intended schedule was Tuesdays and Fridays, but I outdid that last week. Next week will probably have some overproduction too; I only have school for Monday and Tuesday.

So yes: the comic updates when I finish a comic, at least two times a week.

Unless you'd rather I stick to a two-a-week schedule and just keep a buffer. I won't complain about that.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-20, 10:29 PM
I spent a long time working on a comic for today; I had almost finished -- then inkscape froze.:smallfurious:

I'll try to redo the stuff I hadn't saved, but if you don't get a comic today, it will be tomorrow.

EDIT: I finished page 4 more quickly than expected.

Good stuff so far. The name "Generica" has a great ring to it. I like the gentle prodding of the fourth wall without actually speaking to the audience. I have a strong suspicion that Cale will be a Belkar-esque character. I look forward to seeing more of this, I think it has some good potential.

yoshi927
2007-11-21, 04:16 PM
The best fighter in a day's travel, huh? Well, nice comic, anyway.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-23, 12:16 PM
Page 5 is posted. I know the punchline is really just a redoing of page 4's, but I genuinely couldn't think of any other two panels to finish the page when I drew it. I promise never to do that again. I hope the finger puppets and plot exposition make up for it.

Ichneumon
2007-11-23, 12:28 PM
That was great. I'm still reading this comic.

yoshi927
2007-11-23, 01:16 PM
Tsk. Didn't you promise not to break the fourth wall? :smallwink:

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-23, 02:01 PM
Yeah. Looking back at this comic, it's not that good. I'll redo the last few panels when I get the chance, but I'm not going to make it #1 on my priority list.

EDIT: page five has been changed. I like this one better, but the original is now in the "original version comics" section.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-25, 04:56 PM
New comic is up. This is a joke I thought of very early and have been looking forward to doing since I started the comic.

EDIT: How did I not notice the repeated panel until just now?? I'll fix that.

Done! That went quickly. Only took four minutes.

Heh, this isn't half bad. I like the humour, the last strip made me laugh.

As you post more strips your art style should improve, as that's probably the weakest part of this strip at the moment. Having said that, the humour is good, the story is set up okay, and the art isn't exactly bad, so all in all a decent start!

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-11-28, 09:13 PM
Page seven is up. It's not as long as the others, but the longer version involved the worst pun ever, so I went with this one.

@V: The early comics were mainly plot-based. I'm currently in a section that's entirely intended to be funny, but isn't strictly necessary for the plot. I hope to have a good balance of the two.

In the beginning, I wasn't such a fan of the humor, but either it's improving or the comic has just grown on me.

Love the last one. :P

Wow, that guy's... not too good at testing.

The only bad thing about this comic is that we have to wait till next week for more. :smallwink: I'm not trying to rush you, though. I've done a few webcomics, I'm usually only bold enough to go for once a week updates.

I'm going to be unable to draw any new comics until Tuesday. I have an oral report which counts for 30% (:smalleek:) of my Art History grade on Tuesday, and really need to do well on it. Also contributing is my lack of internet access this weekend, which I will spend in my second home in the country -- far away from my desk. If my parents don't ban me from the computer when they find out how I do on the report, updates will resume at two to three a week afterwards.

Note: Gard's comment in the first panel is a reference to the art history project that delayed me making this comic.

Although I like the comic and will continue to read it, just take this as constructive critisism. The plot isn't moving fast enough. It has been 8 pages already and we still have almost no idea of what is happening. 1-3 pages of vagueness is cool and interesting, but I thinkn many readers will stop after 8 pages without to much detail.

I like page 8 though, the fire-thing was fun.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-12-08, 12:43 PM
I suppose the plot is moving rather slowly, but don't worry, it picks up in comic nine, in which our heroes will actually do some heroing.

[Insert Neat Username Here]
2007-12-09, 12:17 AM
Comic 9 is up. I'm starting to move the plot more here, now that I'm done with character exposition.

(I would have had comic 10 done, but inkscape crashed)

Another short comic, but I couldn't figure out a way to break what had to happen in the next two pages up into the regular format.

Is the foot going where it appears to be going? :smalleek:

Looks alright though, I think the pulse gag was good enough for the short strip, and the whole "The call is coming from inside the house" shpiel was certainly enough to give suspense on the next one :smalltongue:

^ Great comic. And I somehow doubt Cale saw the guy's cloak of invisibility; that would be very difficult.

Don't worry; I'm not quitting Generica, I've just been extremely busy. In the last five days alone, I've been out of town or otherwise unable to work on four. I'll try to get a comic done tomorrow.

Do you remember comic five (http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x299/Insert_Neat_Username_Here/Generica/0005-1.png)? I know I didn't specifically say it, but I thought it was pretty obvious that he was there for the gem.

Well time is fleeting and so is my memory :smalltongue:

But even then, if no-one is certain what it does, why steal it? Surely going through the case of using powerful magic and committing breaking and entering and murder are things that would be completely wasted if it actually was a bottle opener.

Someone must know something about what it does. Something big enough to warrant these kind of actions.

Or they could just by psychotic. Both are kinda likely.

I'm not going to answer that just yet; it would reveal too much about the main villain. Let's just say you'll find out eventually.

I'm sorry. I was going to start the next comic, then I discover that the past few weeks have been packed completely full. I don't have much work soon (of course, that probably means I have three tests and two essays due on wednesday that I didn't know about; that's how it's seemed to work so far) and know what will happen during the next few comics, so I should be able to update soon.

But I do have comic 12 done:http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x299/Insert_Neat_Username_Here/Generica/0012.png

Oh, of course. Oddly, I had this strip written, but not drawn, for awhile before I read that. Only now did I realize the resemblance. It's a coincidence, if an interesting one.

In other news, I may be able to post another comic this week. Maybe. It seems like every time I say that my teachers assign more homework.
