Can a metamagic rod be used on a spell cast from a staff? The description on the SRD doesn't seem to consider the question.

[Yes, I know that the final decision lies with the DM. Before asking my DM, I want to know if there is a rules answer already established. It might give me an argument to use in its favor, or it might convince me not to ask at all.]

In Metamagic Feats (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#metamagicFeats), it states the following, which seems fairly self-explanatory:

A spellcaster can’t use a metamagic feat to alter a spell being cast from a wand, scroll, or other device.

Now, if you have Metamagic Spell Trigger or a similar effect, you'd definitely be able to, but the number of charges used up is somewhat ambiguous (whether it's as normal for the staff because the rod provides the energy or if it's increased as the feat states because it's "for each change in spell level a metamagic feat normally requires").

Perfect. That's what I missed. Thank you.
